  • Which Rolex To Buy Part II

Hi all. I am relatively new to Rolex watches. So please give me your patience if you find the questions I asked below stupid or silly.

    1. I want to buy a Rolex watch, price range not more than SGD$ 10K. Must be bigger than 40mm. Which model should I buy?

    2. Pre-owned or brand new?

    3. Which models are, hmm how should I put it, "everlasting popular"?

Thank you for your time. Cheers!

    1. Explorer 2 - BNIB ROC private seller selling ~$9k +/-300. It is 42mm.
    2. BNIB or preowned depends on individual liking. I like mine BNIB but cost slightly more loh.
    3. Daytona and Submariner.

Explorer II is a good way to ease into the brand. After the excitement of a new watch dies down, it'd be a good, reliable bang-around watch, and the sand-brushed bezel/links will hid the scratches better than the polished ones. Get it new! It's a whole different experience to get it from an AD - ask them to introduce watches to you, different brands and check out their product knowledge

Buy here in the forum and than goto RSC to verify.
          Verification cost $107.
Sports model SS here sell less than 9.9k for most model except DSSD.

              pal,

I was in the same situation like you a while ago. Everyone says to buy the black face daytona 116520.
so I went to try the steel... but I dont like.
Then I tried the two tone.... also a bit strange.
Then the full gold.... too expensive but still a bit awkward.

So I concluded (too early) that the daytona or rolexes are not for me because they are mostly 40mm and below while most of my other watches are way bigger.

Nonetheless I continued to search and finally by chance I saw the half gold white face daytona looking very good on an actor in a movie. especially the gold lined sub dials. So I gave it a shot and the rest is history. I got the one with diamond markers because I really dont like the baton markers.

I probably won't buy new or BNIB because
              1. I look at the savings and that helps me justify buying one
              2. I wear my watches very often and brand new watches getting scratches is a huge heartache for me

If you can find a right sub or daytona colour combi, you'd probably go for 40mm. Because that's what happened to me. And if you are willing to settle for a non-BNIB, your choices open up and you'd have a lot more fun choosing and looking for one.

I realized the process of finding one is more fun than owning one :P

                I would say 216570 too.

42mm orange hand. (which was first used in the original Explorer II)
                rugged daily wear

One more affirmation for the EXPLORER II (Black or White face).

Since you prefer bigger than 40mm and less than $10k (after AD discounts), can only consider Explorer 2 (42mm) or Datejust 2 (41mm). The other one (DSSD) is 43mm but it should be more than $10k.

I would prefer BNIB or LNIB for preowned. But do prepare to pay more for good condition but should be cheaper than AD. But if the difference is not much, do get from AD. It's an interesting process and fun during during the purchase.

I would say Submariner, Daytona and DateJust are everlasting models. These models' styles never change much over the years. In fact, a lot of new technologies had been added, such as ceramic bezel, better clasp and bracelet etc. but design still retains the original looks.

                            To being with:

                            1) EX II (if must be 42mm)
                            2) Sub C
                            3) GMT IIC

All within your budget of SGD10K regardless of BN (Grey) or Preowned.
                            Happy Choosing!
