I had a quick read of this thread and have the following comments:-
1)why all the panic if you bought a Rolex from a pawn shop, pawn shops are licenced and is the same as any pre-own shop/ dealer . They are not "fly by night roadside stalls". with the receipt it will state the model and serial number of the watch.
If RSC say fake , you can always go back for a refund.Pawn shops are rich and will not risk their name, business and reputation over a fake Rolex.
2)people who operate pawn shops are not idiots, they know how to tell a fake from real.
they may overlooked some minor parts but not the entire watch and movement.
those guys will make a copy of the sellers NRIC , open the watch and check before they buy.
lets assume they mess up and bought a fake, they will report the seller to the police too.
3)todate, I have not come across a total fake watch that looks so real it can fool collectors. Fakes can only fool people who dont own a real rolex.
I have even examined the so called "swiss made movement" replicas and they are a far cry from the real Rollies.
We have discussed this in earlier threads where we listed many simple tests that anyone can use to verify if a watch is fake.My 18K Gold Day Date "President" Collection:
1) WG DIA 18239
2) YG DIA 18238
3) WG 18239
4) YG 18238

6) WG DIA 18039
7) WG 18039
8) YG 18038
9) Tridor DIA 18039B
10) YG DIA 18078 Bark
11) RG 1803 (Mint V.Rare)
12) WG 1803
13) YG 1803
50th Anniversary Collection:
1)GMT II 116718 18K
2)Sub 16610LV Mk1 x 4pcs ( 3F + 1 Y!)
Others
1)Daytona RG 116505 18K

I send the watch to Cartier to check for service. An hour later they told me the watch is fake! It's so good that the only difference they can see is the color of the crown jewel is lighter, crown stem is unfinished and the deployant buckle close with a slight wider gap.
Luckily I haven't paid the seller and return it back to him.
While it is easier to replicate a Cartier as the movement can be bought, Rolex on the other hand is quite impossible to replicate as its Movement is in-house and they don't sell parts.Last edited by Alexlow; 03-10-12, 07:59 PM.

They open up the watch again to have a more "in depth check" ended up with no conclusion. They didn't charge me of course but advice me to sent to Cartier. (if I were to gone with the 1st conclusion, I would have bought a fake then)

Now a days the counterfeiters are getting better and better. Therefore the buyers have to be careful when buying used watches. Without papers I recommend to check with the authorized dealers. It is better to lose couple odd hundred dollars instead of losing the entire investment.

people buy/sell rolex warranty papers and cards all the time, especially when during a watch fair/show. it's easier to fake paper work and cards than watch parts.
this has been going on for a long time.“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

Seems like TS has gone MIA?
By now he should have got the result of the authentication, so I guess an update from him is not too much to ask for after he screamed for help and got some advices from this forum?Watches are like potato chips - You never stop at one
