  • Both have their own charms, I think.
Actually, I never eyed Rolex until recently (only have 1601 and a Cellini from my dad).
Reason was that I thought Rolex was Tao Kae's choice.
    Panerai was new gen.

Nevertheless, once I grow a little older (haha), a bit more mature and practical.
I found that Rolex also has a good charm and very practical and durable.
Panerai felt now a little heavy and bulky, somehow.

    Just funny feeling.

        • I love my green bezel and i love my radiomir as well. 1 auto 1 hand wound both are unique and great combination.

          • They if you like big watches then you'd probably like Panerai

            • Started as a fan of rolex --> fan of rolex + pam --> back at rolex + a few others.
My conclusion it's just a member of that "few others". It's eye catching and makes you itch for new straps like you itch in changing your wheels in your car, but somehow it bored me after a while.

              • As I prefer rather big watches, my personal opinion would be that at 40mm, the size of Rolex watches do not really stand out, which is why I prefer the Explorer II at 42mm. At 40mm, the watch would look rather small on a large wrist. The only Rolex watch which has a 44mm diameter is the DSSD.

That said, PAMs come in various sizes from 40mm, 44mm and 47mm. To me, the size of a watch is important and if you like big watches then PAM offers better variety compared with Rolex. Besides that, the shape and luminosity of PAMs are quite legendary. PAMs are really easy to read, has great luminosity and look good due largely to its design and large numerals.

                Just giving an opinion.

But my boss loves his PAM, much more than his rolex. he condemned his rolex (passed down sub from his relative) cause he was quoted $600 for servicing/repair.
Wow . Pass down still complain. Tell him I buying it from him at $700 the broken rolex sub watch.

                    • Agreed. 44mm is best.

                      • was considering a PAM before getting DSSD... but somehow PAM just doesn't "talk" to me as much as a Rolex

both are nice time pieces I have to say

Having one or 2 is nice but they have just too many releases with very minor tweaks / differences and they relaunch it as "regulars", "ltd edt", "special edt", "boutique edt" etc with insane prices.

366, remove the "fu" and it becomes the 367 HK Edt which ends up looking like a 111 but with a 0 movement?

0, PVD it, add some vintage markers and it becomes the 360 Ltd Edt

0 again, remove the logo, slap on a clear back and you get the 112 with some decorated movement

112, housed in a titanium case and u get the 176

183, add a logo and you get the 380

217 (grail), change the fonts from Marina Militare to Luminor Panerai and you get the 368 (albeit with 8 days movement)

249 (grail), movement changed and it becomes 448 "special edt"

233, add 2 more days to the power reserve and it becomes a 270

The above are just purely my thoughts and feelings about this brand and not meant to offend.

But oh well, whatever increases their profit margin and mass appeal.
I know what you mean. I saw this somewhere....

Panerai to me was not just the watch, but the friends i made locally, regionally and some globally. They are the one thing that represent the brand (which I don't get much from any other brands). But few of them "retired" and some are going to "retire" from the brand and thus making my circle of real Panerai kakis smaller and smaller and some are really really hard core Panerai follower and mixing with them requires serious collection.

So I am the opposite...Panerai owner think of Rolex.

                            But this was really funny.

                            • Sorry if i offend but since way way back when i saw the price of a basic luminor marina go up from $2k to $4k, i take Panerai to be a trend.

Similarly ROO APs are a trend and several others.

Of course , trends can be kept going for many reasons which i wont be discussing today.

But watever it is, like your own watch, thats most important.

                              Goodday
