your cert is proof of purchase and date. as AD is to stamp/date/name the cert, that is how RSC will know your warranty. however having said that, there are instances, where you will see stamped but no date filled in.

rsc also not stupid will find out if you are playing games with them.

      Local/Overseas AD

      Hi Guys,
Does it really matter if the watch is bought from local or overseas
AD? As I understand it, watch bought from local AD can fetch a
higher resale value than overseas AD. Why is it so??

As the watch comes with an international warrantee and when it needs servicing, you have to send it to the sole agent's service centre and
not to the local AD for servicing irrespective of where you bought the
watch. So why the preference for the watch to be bought locally to
fetch a higher resale value? Pls enlighten me. (Pardon me if this subject
      has been brought up previously)

Watch from local AD since when will fetch higher resale? It's just that people know that it's cheaper to buy overseas...so dun want to let them earn so much mah

But it's never the case that local is worth more than overseas...rubbish 1

i think i know where u coming from. take an example an explorer II bought local AD should be about 6880. however the same series bought from overseas AD should be about 6600. assuming bought @ the same time, same series.

so buyer A buy from local AD @ 6800. buyer B buy from overseas AD @ 6600. when both buyer A and B decide to sell @ the same time. buyer A would want to sell @ a price higher than that of buyer B.

however buyer B can afford to sell @ lower price compared to buyer A since the purchase price was lower. as such, this has lead to the false interpretation that local sets have a higher resale value.

Even a local set can have different price at the same price because it depends on the discount you get. If you are a regular, then you may enjoy a higher discount than say, a walk-in customer . So, when two local set are on sale, price may also be different.

Thus, the important thing is the market value of the watch at that specific time.

I would agree with all that have been said so far. But somehow, given 2 similar watches, one bought from local AD while the other bought from overseas AD, and all things being equal including the price, the buyer would still prefer the set bought locally. I guess it's because of the familarity with
                    the local AD.

If you are the buyer, what would be your preference?

Americans will look at THG's rolex as overseas AD... HKers will look at THH's rolex as overseas AD... so, to me no difference....

ADs do not manufacture watches. They simply act as agents/dealers. If your watch is not functioning well, do you think that they can service for you? They still need to bring it to the official service centre. So, they are just acting as a postman in this case.

At most, you can voice your dissatisfaction if it's a recent purchase & maybe get a better discount off your next purchase. Thus, I do not see any advantage of a local AD set over an overseas set. More importantly, is still the conditions of the watch & price.

Just my 2 cents of unworthy opinions.

You hit the nail on the head by saying that ADs are not manufacturer of the watch and merely agents. Let me take the example of Sinn watches.

THG is the local AD for Sinn watches and I believe Sinn do not have a
service centre locally. If you have bought your Sinn watch from overseas AD and you need to service your Sinn watch, do you sent it directly to
Germany or can you go through THG.

Does THG obliged to attend to you since the watch was not purchased from
                              them?
