Diamond or Watch? Which is better in holding its value?

Yup yup. I meant able to hold its value well, won't lose too much if I were to sell it.

Or maybe if i post my question on another forum which is all about diamonds, they may say diamond is of better value? So i guess it depends on which type of diamond and watch to buy ba.

i think there is a confusion between "investments" and "hold value."

I will not consider a watch or diamond as investment becos i cant afford the $500k watch or $3mil diamond which will have true investment value. but the watches and diamonds I buy do hold value pretty value.

So before we continue, maybe we can be in line with our understanding.

Generally, watches and diamonds dont make for investments but they do hold their value fairly well.

Investments are more for making money, hold value is more for not losing money.
they do kinda overlap but there is a difference.

So also depends on choosing the right piece or right model of the watch. Was browsing on the rolex garage forum, some 20-40 yrs old watch can't really get a good price. But will a 20-40yr old diamond be better since it will still look or be the same and no weardown?

Yes. You're right. I think the minimium requirement for an investment is to beat inflation. For an investment, you can either lose $$$ or make $$$ unless it is capital secured. So if you're looking at this way, buying a Daytona SS is not a bad idea as Rolex retail prices go up every year and at least it is "$12k" secured. Looking at the vintage daytona, you might make big $$$ 30 years later (better than putting $$$ in CPF).... ha ha...

Sure, let me know if I could help. Regarding the model, it's really hard to tell you. Rolex Lady DJ has too many models with MOP dial. You need to know the exact model number. Alternatively, get the big catalog from RSC. Usually the big catalog illustrates almost all models with model number. IMO, the maxi VI or 31 mm Lady DJ which was launched last Basel is a vey popular model. I guess most ladies prefer 31 mm than the 26 mm. It's not that big but easier to read than 26 mm. Only downside is the price is getting steeper with lesser discounts.

MOP = Mother of Pearl

My hubby seems to prefer getting a watch to diamond too. Do you know what's the other model without the VI set with diamonds but mother of pearl face? Remember both pieces around the same price.

If you'd like to place your money into something you can wear, enjoy, and that's still holding it's value, it would be on good grade diamonds. Generally, women's jewelry watches do not make great investment pieces, unless they're very exclusive.

does rolex watches that come with factory diamonds come with a GIA cert....???
heard that they don't come with cert like tag heuer or other brands... if they don't then is there a possibility that the diamonds that rolex fits in it's watches are CC diamonds....???

dont think the small diamonds used in rolex dials, probably only 0.05carat each, come with GIA cert as the cost of certifying may exceed the cost of the stone itself

the GIA technicians may probably laugh if they see a 0.05carat seeking certification

usually diamonds >0.5carat are certified

Rolex doesn't have cert for their diamonds but they ONLY use Colourless and Internally Flawless diamonds from my knowledge. So no need for cert, as long as it's original from Rolex, it shld be Colourless and internally flawless.

No it's not the grading thats just for their product identification.

Like eg 16233G, which means 16233 with diamond dial.

Diamond and watch can hold value. For diamond to hold most of its value, it must be big carat, IF, good colour, dont set and wear. keep a loose stone, ' investment' grade. If you buy to wear then buy what shines and what looks good. But still better then people who spend thousands on accessory and costume jewellery, which at the end of its 'life', just throw away. at least diamond got some residual value. Or give your children next time and they can reset the diamond.( save money don't need to buy new diamond).

Watch - you all know. get PP minute repeater value sure hold. Good brand watch still will hold some value. Still better then buying many junk watch and throw.
