is it possible to find out the reason why in US they are doing so?

It is not implemented here yet so should be "safe" now.
No idea why US is doing so.

Well, If I recalled correctly, people are restricted in term of the number of Rolex they carry if they travel in and out of US( the topic was discussed in US watch forums). Reason is to booast Rolex internal sale in US. If Rolex starts to gather owner info for new watch sale, it mostly likely for marketing and to reduce grey market share( where their new watch are sold). Just my $2.
