              Its definitely still there.

used my iphone led torch app in a dark room and saw it on my alpha-numaric sub c. from the naked eyes, its like a speck of dust, gotta look closely.

This is a new ROLEX watch (2012)

Can you see the ROLEX crown on the glass at the 6 o'clock position?

                    • Rolex Laser Etched Crown - Up Close

I thought I'd share a couple of images of the Laser Etched Rolex Crown taken with my digital microscope for those who does not have the means to view it up close. I am amazed at the precision that lasers can achieve. It would certainly not be easy to do any precision engraving on sapphire glass.

50X Magnification (Laser Etched Crown at the 6 O'Clock position):

200X Magnification (Laser Etched Crown at the 6 O'Clock Position):

And here's a 50X close-up of the engraved crown at the rehaut at the 12 O'Clock position:

                        • nice close up shot! is this some kind of lab equipment that you are using?
The time in life is perpertually moving forward while that in the watch is going in circles.

                          • WoW! Very nice! Was the laser etched crown easily seen with the microscope, or still needed to tilt around for ideal lighting?

                              • @Emboss - This is a handheld digital microscope I use for my industrial work. It is not what many would imagine the tabletop microscope used in the lab to view bacteria and viruses :-) Here is a picture of the microscope. You can find cheaper China-made versions going for a couple of hundred bucks at the PC Shows but their resolution is lower. I assume by now they would also have the higher res versions.

@Blueysmurfy - the built-in LED in the microscope makes the etching very easy to see without the need to tilt the Sapphire Glass. However, I did have to tilt it in such a position so that the background dial do not obscure the laser marked Crown.
