  • Need Advise on buying used Daytona

    Hi all,

A friend offered to sell his Daytona's collection. Need your advice on whether it's worth buying:

    1. Y-series early 2003, SS white dial, condition good, price $14.6k

    2. F-series Jan 2004, SS white dial, minor scratches, price $14.9k

    3. D-series Jun 2005, SS black dial, minor scratches, price $15.7k

All watches come with paper & box. I am keen in item 2 & 3 which he offered me $30.3k. He is willing to sell all 3 at $44.5k.

Is it over-priced? What do you think the fair price should be if I were to counter-offer him? Comparing to getting a new set from AD, is the saving worth considering?

Thank you for reading and awaiting your kind advice/feedback.

    Cheers,
    Thio

hi, thanks.. i don't think he will consider $29k. btw, there's a pretty deep scratch on the bezel, any idea whether this could be polished away in RSC. if yes, how much will the cost be?

Normally polishing comes with servicing at our DEAR RSC... they will not take in job of polishing alone... so polish + servicing for 116520... I think I better don't tell you... tell you already you don't buy... ha ha....

any idea what's the (best) new price? went to Dickson (Suntec) and they quoted $18k (black dial) and $17k (white).

In this forum ever people offer item 2 at $14.5k (F series)

For item 2 and 3, S$30.3k is on the high side for preowned, you can consider if his offer is between S$29K to S$29.5K (don't forget to varify the watches at RSC)

                    SS Daytona Black Dial,
SS GMT II coke, SS GMT IIC, TT GMT IIC,
SS Sub Date, TT Sub Date Black,
                    SS SD,
                    SS YM,
                    SS YM Mid Size,

i believe he will consider ard $29.8k or thereabout. bt not very sure it's a good buy or not considering the difference with the new set is less thn 20%.

yup, pretty deep to me. the seller assured me it can be rectified and if it can't, he is willing to take it back. as he is a friend, things may get complicated so...

At the price you mentioned, I ratehr buy new.. IMO
it seems to be, not sure it's the right time to buy. the offer came because this friend of mine need cash badly. there have also been lots of advice to 'invest' in daytona..

anyway heading down to HG later as I have to get back to my friend by today.

                        Cheers...

Since he need cash badly, $29k is very deal for him loh... he will not get this much from watch dealers....

Daytona is always a good buy esp during bad time like now... it will not drop much yet it holds its value over time... and i am SURE it will appreciate in long run....

true but dealing with a friend, you could get the best deals or worst. further he is in need so...

anyway, will decide after the trip to HG later. you think the price (new frm AD) will soften couple of months down the road?

                            tks...

                              hi all,

thanks for your kind advice/comments. i have decided against buying from my friend as he is not willing to lower his price.

went down to HG today, the price for the black & white dial SS combined is $33.5k (cash or CC, no diff). maybe getting from thm but will have a walk to chinatown first.

                              cheers...
