  • Omega price catching up with Rolex???

    Hi all,

Want to hear your opinions on the above.
Lately omega planet ocean new models seem to have price tags almost
    equivalent to Rolex;
New Planet Ocean (with ceramic dial) retailing above $10K and comparable to
Rolex Sub ceramic already. Is it true or is my news not so right?

Is omega now in the same league or is Rolex sliding down?

my view is, for every price rise omega takes, rolex will raise by the same margin.

it is evident that prices of omega have risen significantly over the last few years, with some rumours that swatch group is trying to upmarket the omega line.

But I feel the jump for omega is a bit steep to swallow.

If given the same price range, I would have opt for Rolex already.

IMO the league is in resale and discount.

Say u pay 9.5k for sub, u can easily sell for 8.5k

Try selling a PO for 8.5k..

Yup, prices seem to be going up for Omega and for Rolex too. And Rolex has also responded by raising their prices. I suspect for Omega, new models to come will be launched at a higher price.

Old omega is using ETA movement.

New Omega is co-axial & FP movement.

But i still like Rolex movement cause accurate and robust.

Agree, the resale is the greatest turnoff.

Not only for PO. The resale markets for Omega has not been catching up except for those vintage models.

Every brand wants a piece of the pie but how many can succeed? Only time will tell. Another good example is Panerai ..

Rolex equity branding is a league of its own...

Omega dont even come close even with a higher premium price...perhaps for those new to watch collections will like it...lol

No doubt Omega want to up brand its branding, but if omega is not even coming close
to this league with the higher price, isnt she killing herself with her own product?
If you price high, you probably have done enough market survey to know that this
price will substain, if not, ultimately offering very huge discounts on your high premiums
PO, isnt that losing face in a way?

But if on the other hand, if they had thought out the details and think the price will
sell. Shouldnt Rolex up their prices again to remain in another league? Or is omega REALLY catching up.

Too true, resale is a very good indicator of consumer perception. Omega can up their prices all they want but consumer perception won't change overnight. If Omega prices their speedmasters same as a Daytona, it doesnt mean the two are in the same league, nobody with 15k to drop is gg to spend it on a speedy.
