The price tag they are asking for. The only way to ever get it "brand new" is
From the AD who are allocated stocks from the watch makers.

I can offer another example.

Someone bought a new apartment from the developer, already T.O.P., but never move in or rent out. One year later I bought the apartment from him. Do I considered the apartment new? Yes. Is the apartment preowned? Yes too, coz it has been owned by someone before and I am the second owner.





So, new/brand new/BNIB and preowned are entirely two different animals, and can co-exist.

I disagree with you. Even brand new watches being sold at the ADs may not be "factory fresh" - did you not ever try on watches in the shops and not buy it? So how to know if a watch is "factory fresh"? Protective stickers? I can get a few dozens of them and stick it on every of my watches that doesn't have it, like what most ADs and even preowned dealers are doing. And if I somehow manage to buy a factory fresh watch, keep it in the safe "bracelet unsized/strap unmounted, all protective stickers still intact and the warranty card is not even dated/and is unnamed" for 20 years, is it still BNIB? No, it becomes NOS liao.

For some, they base on the stickers and the pristine to judge if it's new. For some, even though there's no sticker, but seller say new they believe it's new.

Bnib just means it is new. Condition like deplay sets are still considered new. No one owns it before.

At the end of the day, only price matters regardless whether it is BNIB, display set and ...... ontherwise there is no grey market.

Before buying just ensure it is still under warranty and authenicate at RC or appointed service centre to ensure that it is in good condition (without tampering or modification)

Maybe I try to give some scenario:
Case 1. Buy a brand new watch, wear it even for only 1 special occasion/day---> once own by someone it's already pre-own w/o doubt.
Case 2. Buy a brand new watch, ONLY just for admiring it occasionally for a couple of minutes, clean it(like those SA clean it after the customer left the shop) & later back to the 'safe' again---> u are the only customer, SA & your house is the 'shop' all in one. IMO it's still pre-own but BNIB
Case 3. Buy a brand new watch, intention as a gift(no owner yet), 3 months later give it to the lucky person to shower with luv----> BNIB
Case 4. Buy a brand new watch, intention is solely for trading and looking for buyer to luv this watch----> BNIB only if you believe the seller didn't wear it, otherwise is case 1.
Unless it's a collection model, regardless 1 or 4, when the watch changes hand, the value will drops from 4 to 1 in descending order.
Have a friend bought a solid RG Daytona from another friend at half the original price, he added another 1k on top what was offer by outside shop, yes and he only wear it once, his is a case 1.

My logic is this:

Buying first hand from AD is BNIB, you are the first owner, so you got a virgin watch.

Buying pre-owned means you are the second owner. The first owner owned the watch before you. Even if everything is complete and the watch not worn by the first owner, it is still considered pre-owned already.
That's my logic...

If one advertises a LNIB Rolex Ceramic Sports series (no scratches at all, perfect condition) without factory stickers as a 'BNIB' set @ $3k below grey dealer price / local AD price (after discount)... I'll gladly snag it, and tell myself it's BNIB man

It's all labels? At the end of the day, so long as buyer and seller have common understanding of background and condition of watch, that's what's most impt? You mean some seller label his watch 'BNIB', 'Mint', 'Pristine', 'Virgin' etc, you are not going to inspect it before passing your $$$ over???! Even if you buy straight from AD, you still inspect for QC issues too, nvr know if some saleman took the same watch out last night and go mountain-climbing, wash toilet etc...
