    hi guys
need your opinions on below pieces
which serial do you prefer to own
the gmt pepsi bezel 'P' serial
or the gmt II 'M' serial with 3186 movement

  • #2
by asking the 2 series, i take into consideration that you do not have budget constraint as the price difference between the 2 series can be several thousand dollars.

P series is selling above market rate due to discon. M series with 3186 is selling above market rate plus premium due to the 3186 movement. then the question is do u think it is worth to pay extra premium where no one can tell if it is one with 3185 or 3185 @ first glance. some say if u do the wiggle test, then u know it is the latter movement.

between the both, if the P series has box and papers, the condition is ok due to the age thrugh normal wear and tear and was serviced @ regular interval, i would take it rather than the later M series.

to me, whether or not it is a 3185 or 3186 does not matter that much given that asking prices for this model has escalated quite substantially since its annoucement of discon in jun 2007.

For me, they are 2 different watches, P series is 3185 movt, M series is 3186 movt, you got to decide what you wanted.
      For me the decision are:
P series will be nice with 'Coke' bezel, in consideration of fading bezel plate colour after some years of extensive wear and tear. the black colour fade better than the blue.
M series no choice as all are IIc, I am still wondering how SRC get back the colour as ceramic bezel construction is whole piece by itself?

          thanks for the reply guys

because i have a friend who was asking me this question the other night
          when we went clubing
he was wearing one gmt pepsi 'P' serial (he told me it's 'P')
and that this serial is quite demanding
          my knowledge is limited

          maybe i am abit drunk
and i told him that the gmt II 'M' serial is more demanding cos of 3186 movement

when on the way home i keep thinking which watch is more desirable
          hmmm

if i can have of course i would want both
but now only one budget for one

Both are in demand now...but M series is more demanding in terms of price.

this Rolex poison is getting me disorientated

                some time back
i did post a thread about submariner w/o date vs explorer II
the respond was more towards explorer II
as both models are not in demand
                and they are widely available
                furthermore, with discount

i was hesitating which one to aquire
                hmmm
                now i have a problem

                my mind changes again
recent few posted threads of gmt has infected me
