  • My GMT II woes..

I got my GMT II 16710 for a year, before it was discontinued. Got it first hand from HG.

When i first got it, noticed that the SuperLuminova on the 24 hour hand triangle and one of the minute marker at the 5 min corner has some brown discolouration.

didnt have time to bring it down for a watch check until now. Will be going to HG later to find my SA.

just wondering if any bros here have got the similar 'defects' on the rolls. . . .

dun think yr SA can help much. only way to change would be to head down to rsc.

Why do u want to bring it down to your SA? Since u noticed that when u first got the watch, u should have brought it back to your SA immediately. Having owned it for a year, suggest u bring it down to RSC instead.

true true, i may have delay in rectifying the problem but for a brand like Rolex, u dont expect the show to show such defect within the next 3 - 5 years, right?

Firstly, i dont wear my GMT II often since i got it, i tot that i may be able to live with this little imperfection in my watch.

I ponder for sometime and came to realise that for a brand that is synonym with high quality standard such defect is not acceptable.

Bring it down straight to RSC. The SA will not be able to do much. Most probably he/she will advise you to head to RSC. My 2 cents.

this is what most pple perceive. unfortunately, it has defective pieces which actually passed thru QC. go look up rolex forums and see abt this guy who bought a new sub lv only to discover that the markers were misaligned and had to sent in to rsc for rectification.

top notch workmanship: sometimes just not rollie.

What I've personally came across are:
                • cyclops misalignment (ExpII); and
                • baby hair in dial (SS Sub-date).

To make it a point, go to ur SA to get the message across to RSC. Even if u shld go to RSC yrself, let ur SA knw tat they r selling such items.

                Just my tots.

My view is that you should send it back to the person who sold you the watch

If it is brand new, there should not be defects, and if he wants to continue selling you watches, it is only right for him/her to rectify the problem for you. No reason for you to take over the problem and handle it as if it is caused by you.

If the watch was rarely worn and case is still quite clean, you can make the argument that watch had not been tampered with, and that the salesman should help you rectify the problem. If it means going to the Rolex Centre, he/she should be the one doing it on your behalf.

Just my 2 cents, this is how I would handle it if I were you. If whoever sells you wants to continue having your business, he/she would is obliged to help you. Good luck!

ps - yes, I did buy a Rolex 116520 brand new from an AD which had some badly scratched hour markers. I told the salesman to handle the problem, and he did.
