i can understand where the seller is coming from, and if you buy from any preown shops, they will tell you the same - buyer pay full for the watch first, then go verify it on his own; if verified not 100% authentic within the same day, bring back for full refund

imagine this scenario - what if seller accompany buyer for verification without buyer first paying full; after verified authentic by rolex center or any third party shop, the buyer back out of the deal on the spot

worse still, what if during the verification the technician scratched the watch accidentally and the buyer back out of the deal because of the scratch?

the seller waste his time and receive 'free scratches' - no preown shops would do business this way

if the buyer is reluctant to pay full upfront, he should at least pay a non-refundable deposit to seller if he insist on seller to accompany for verification, and for whatever reason the deal doesnt go through after verified 100% genuine, the deposit is forfeited

if watch verified fake, deposit goes back to buyer

But seller doesn't want to do verification, saying that "if u doubt the watch, pls buy other one that u do not doubt. i don't want to follow buyer around to verify, prefer to sell to a buyer that how to see watch." And watch comes with no box and papers.

I understand that sellers are to sell only authentic products.
But I feel uncomfortable if no verification is done.
What should I do? Can I say this person might be selling a fake?
Or is it very normal for seller not wanting to do verification?

Curious on how long will it take Rolex to verify the authenticity of the watch?

I think it's normal for anyone that wants to buy a watch, wants to get it at a reasonable price and with a piece of mind. Furthermore, he stated that he is new to rolex, and might not know what to check when given the watch... So give him a chance bro. If everyone give a reply like yours, then what's the point of a forum. All of us here have the same hobby and just wants to have fun hanging around here.

You could get him to do verification with you at those reputable 3rd party workshop, they usually able to do it on the spot. Cheers

The model you looking at is consider pretty new... Furthermore, YM series may not be as popular as sub or gmt, so people that usually buy it are those that like it very much. Therefore might not have the intention to flip it that soon... Anyway, good luck and all the best in your hunt. Cheers

Rolex has been using 8-digit randomly generated serial numbers since 2009/2010. how many digits does your serial number contain? if you serial number has 7 digits, then it is a legacy serial numbers from the old series.

i'm not an expert on serial numbers, just learning from various internet sources.

the Bob's Watches site can apparently check your serial number and tell you the year of manufacture. D series is around the 2005 period. it can even decipher my "random series" serial number, but i'm taking it with a pinch of salt. supposedly only Rolex knows the actual manufacture date for random serial numbers.
