  • Enquiry of Service charges for rolex watch

    hi everyone..
I believe there are my bros who have rolex watch that is more than 2 yrs old.
IS it possible that you can share the experiences of n costing of the overhaul.
What i mean by example after warranty, we send our watch for service and overhaul.
which cost say $780. with 2 yr warranty.

So after 2 yr our watch is 4 yr old . Does that mean our service charges will cost more.?

I was wondering, alot of bro selling their rolex say 10 yr old. so when someone bought from this bro. Then send for services(overhaul) . How much the service charge will cost? is it still the same as $780 or it will cost more???

If it cost more, wouldn't it be better to buy a new one.
Hope any bro can share their advice. Thanks for participating.

base service charge is always the same; plus/minus a few dollars either way. Its the parts that need to be changed that will greatly jack up the price.

    Take for example a basic 6694 overhaul. Base service about 700-800 if im not wrong. if you need to say;
    change dial. add ~$260
    change bracelet, add ~$800
change acrylic crystal, add ~$150 (could be cheaper)

but you get the idea. kinda of like servicing your car. when you pay for a general service, they will look at your car, change oil/filter and do some safety checks. if they find out your brake needs further attention; you add the extra, etc.

      mm

IC. so buying a pre-own watch has a higher risk. Because, outside see okie. What if inside not okie.. so we end up lose more instead of gettig a good bargain.
      Thanks for sharing your advice.

i wont say higher risk. because the price difference usually compensates for the service charges anyway. at the end of the day, there is always two groups:

        regular servicing
        not so regular servicing

some swear by having it done every 3-5yrs. others will wait til the day it stops ticking.

Worth it to buy new/pre-owned+service is subjective. If you are talking about a model that is no longer in production, then you have no choice, right? However if the watch in question is still available in the market easily, then this begs your queries.

Watches and automobiles can/not be compared in this manner. For a two over years watch to really need servicing and repair, the watch must be badly battered up, inside. Most often than not, the tell-tale signs are visible on the outside - dings, dents, deep scratches, chipped glass, 'unnatural noises', etc. When a watch looks and feels fine and well looked after on the outside, it is usually fine on the inside. Of course there are exceptions.

Let's take for example a pre-owned 2005-06 ROLEX Explorer II. The resale price for the model now may costs in the region of mid 4K to 5K+. Let's take it as 5K for a reasonably good set. What you may likely need to do on this watch in your purchase is to send it for basic servicing ($790). Add these two up and you would have spent $5,790 - you get a good watch in full set and a peace of mind. And take yourself into an AD, if you purchase a brand new watch now, it will likely costs you $8K+.

          See it?

            Hi,
I like your explanation. Now i am much more clearer. Buying a pre-own is taking risk , unless you know this person well. And there is no such thing as "good bargain".
But then again.. I see the "bro" selling their watch, the picture really looks great(Like new one) it very temping to me.
I am still hunting. Hope i can buy a watch(pre-own) and have a piece of mind.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thought and advice. I am very happy with everyone reply.

there are some options you can consider, get to know a watch technician who you can trust. alternatively, you can seek assistance from other members who can recommend you their watch technician. cavet emptor. why? because the technician knows the member, but not you. so they may ask you to send in the watch for service when it is not required.

however, i know about 3-4 technicians. most of them are honest.

also some of these technicians can advise you whether the watch needs service or not and if the watch is authentic.

When i first started buying rolex, i came to this Pearl Center Chinatown, 2nd floor, now the shop no longer there, bought my first crown, 1601 black dial, when i worn, i kept hearing this jingling sound, brought it to lucky plaza, one watch technician told me, wrong end link, even told me to go back and how to explain to the shop i bought from, left the watch there, initially they don't even want to replace for me even question me where i found this from. They finally found correct one, with so many scratches, i got it polished at lucky plaza. Problem like turning of the crown before it reaches 24hrs, date jump about 23hrs. I got fed up i sold back to them at lost.

2nd occasion, after selling 1601 i bought a 16234 SS Computer Dial, 2nd shop service slightly better than first one. Found dirt and a chip on the crystal just few days after the purchase, called them and was asked to go down, although they were albout to close in an hour, they still replaced it for me, foc, not origina but still sapphire crystal. Most prob got fixed, why i sold off is because i can't stand non original parts on rolex.

3rd occasion, my sub, touch wood, i bought it, comes with warranty from RSC, send in few times, quite satisfy with the lady who always attended to me. Not like those auntiesince the last time they told me they changed part, turn 24hr precisely, date jump manually wind, won't got stuck when i pulled the crown out to adjust time at times, problem gone. I felt the last vist, locking for oyster bracelet tighter, i didn't even highlight this issue, i think they adusted for me.

Right now, i don't let anyone open my caseback other than RSC.

My warranty card stamp jan 2009, i went down last week to request for a complete overhaul, the lady told me the oldest guy, watch technician, can't find anything wrong, so put back the case and returned it back to me, asked any charges, she said no.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I always thought that just buy a watch and then if got problem simple got to RSC. Never know so much things to consider.

Looks like u had quite a experience on the servicing. I think RSC has it brand to carry. So they will not any how charge customer unnecessarily. thanks for sharing your experience.

No prob bro johnny, it's the aftersales service that count, whether they can solve your problem or not. Buy something with warranty from RSC for piece of mind.

apply abit of critical thinking. as to why, there are many technicians who can service rolex outside RSC @ a fraction of the cost.

Kindly allow me to share my experience. I think cost is only 1 factor to consider in the long run.

The RSC throws in a 2-yr international warranty after it has serviced your watch. For this, you have peace of mind and comfort in the knowledge that all the parts in your watch are genuine Rolex parts. You do not have to live with any doubts and you can assure your buyer down the road if you intend to sell.

I have just serviced my YG Yatchmaster with RSC. At first, the quoted package price of $890 was quite painful. I thought about going to outside technician to get a cheaper quote. In the end, I went to RSC simply for peace of mind. I know I will get all the genuine parts and I also know that all the gold pins in my watch will not be swapped with gold colored pins. (I had a very bad experience when I bought a used gold watch many years ago). That, plus the fact that the watch is 9yr old and requires quite a bit of refurbishing. A few hundred dollars are definitely worth paying to keep your pride and joy in genuine original condition.
