no decent watch boutique would quote discounts over the phone, unless you know them personally...

based on my limited experience, THG does give good discount. almost got the 178274 from them until a fren of mine suggested to go WP look see.

so i went and ended up buying from WP instead as the price was really good. i enquired about couple more models and was also quoted very competitive prices (without any further bargaining yet).

True/not true. Depends which models you are comparing with.

$5K for a brand new ROLEX a bit tough.

this model IMO is quite plain (read ugly)...for $5k unlikely to get brand new rollies.

would suggest you stretch your budget and go for a white gold bezel model with roman markers ($7k - 8k+)rather than this....for those extra $$ u will get something u probably enjoy wearing for years.

You can add an "ong lai" or pineapple, meaning diamond bezel from those 2nd hand rolex watch. "Blink Blink" for lady swee! match with your diamond earring, ring, bracelet, pwr... very princess like...

5K budget can't get a brand new Rolex, stretch $$$ a little more and go for the pre-owned sports models like Sub, GMT II or YM....
