What happened to the Alpha-Numeric Series?

The V series was supposedly replaced by the alpha numeric series, then came the G series and Rolex went back to the V series for the latest Sub LN and LV. Can someone be kind enough to explain the games that Rolex is playing. I did google on this topic but found nothing much. Thanks in advance!

Cannot see what the fuss is over a approximation when a case may or may not have been stamped.Now when you think of the amount of movements like the cal 3135 Rolex uses every year.A rough estimation 400000 the movement could be older newer made or visa versa when its matched to a case.Rolex watches are the only brand that I know of where the case date stuff is so important you don't get it with AP or Patek or any other high end brand.

Just happent the random 1st char/num is a "V" or "G".

my hulk is a alphanumeric....although one of the sellers here posted a "G XXX" hulk...but i suspect it's also alphanumeric...just that mine starts with a number and his starts with alpha "G"..

i dunno la,dun quote me but i seen it somewhere ppl saying alpha numeric consist of total 8 digit & alphabets add up together and v series and older is 1 alphabet + 6 digits.anyone can confirm that?

G 2010 (Jun)

At the beginning of 2010 Rolex changed the

The old serial number system is an alphabet in the front followed by 6 digits.

If the G series serial number is not organised in the above format i.e. it has more than 6 digits, then it must be the new alphanumeric format.

I guess it does matter, if you are owning a V series

the missing alphabets that are not in use are

B, H, I, J, O, Q.

G series has got 6 numerals after it.

J series has got 7 numerals after it. when is it introduced? no idea.
