Aiya, guys guys, please cool down... different shops have different ways to stay in business... at least these people are selling real rolex and they are not there to cheat anyone... just becuase they have gals selling rolex at higher than normal prices doesn't mean they are evil or bad... a transaction needs a buyer and a seller... if price too higher don't buy loh, if they offer you too low don't sell loh...

But once u are in the shop and if u do not have an inkling of the market prices of Rolex, u will be meat on the table for these hyenas. Their trade-in prices are also absurb .
Juz to share, I also had a personal experience with them sometime back when I enquired on the price of a F series SS SubDate that was on display. The gal quoted my 7.2K (back then the retail of a Brand New SS SubDate was $7444). I was actually wearing my SD at the time of the quotation so when I stepped into the shop to look at other models, I casually asked her how much she would take in for my Z series SD (the retail of a Brand New SD was $7711) and she quoted in the region of 4k plus !!!! Then I pointed to a Y series SD she had in the showcase and I asked her how much was its price and guess what... she said its selling at 6.7k negotiable!!! Talk about stupidity on her part as a sales person .. Anyway, she offered no logical explanation except to said that their watch has been serviced, polished, checked, overhaul to pristine condition etc, and that if they take in my SD, they will have to incur cost to restore it to sellable condition even though my SD was in a 9/10 condition. I thanked her for her time and left the shop shortly after cos I'll be even more foolish if I would to buy her explanation!!!
so bottomline is; u can go ogle at thier sales gals (some of them are actually quite attractive ) or even let them serve u on the pretext of buying a watch but forget about actually buying any watches from them lar..Originally posted by 116520 View Postha ha ha... seiko.citizen, I think these people are not silly but normal men... ha ha...with gals selling rolex, very hard to resist....Originally posted by 116520 View Postppbaby59, I am not sure what make you think this way. TS,pls dun be sensitive. no one is laughing u or yr "misfortune". u came in here to share yr story and we appreciate it. we are but amused at the thought of young gals selling a brand of watches that they prob know zilch abt.
if you think this place is hostile to newbies, then u should try other watch forums!Remnants of my irresponsibility:

Wow TS, my sympathies, and thanks for the warning
I struggle with this: Does being "ripped off" by local AD or PIs, enmasse, somehow legitimises the experience and make it more acceptable?
A case in point: For this particular ROLEX model, a couple of asian countries AD sell for about S$6400 to S$6500 after discount and less tax (and subject to prevailing exchange rates) for walk-in. But new pieces here were changing hands at $7k+ (at least till this week).
What do we make of this?

Thinking Aloud
Penguin's strategy primarily smacks of a lack of finesse, and poor information management. Categorically, is it any different from PIs who are also trying to make some profit, albeit with more glib? There's a difference in degree, but the intent certainly is similar.
I cannot disagree with profit-making. Watches may be a hobby for some, but a form of livelihood for others. Selling/buying watches is a legitimate economic activity at the end of the day. So if PIs' activities are acceptable, then by extension, penguin's should not be unacceptable. Just in poor taste perhaps?
