    Just wondering...

Most of the preowned watch shop will tell you that feel free to send their watch to RSC for verification. If it's not authentic feel free to return and they will fully refund you.

I was thinking beside of fully refund, how about the verification fee ($75) and time (probably you may need to take leave to visit RSC cos they won't open on weekend). Would you ever thought of this?

    Cheers,

Ahhh... You reminded of what I'd wanted to post, to ask. Think I'll bring this up again in FAQ/Kopitalk Thread. As for your second para about the effort and time taken, I think it is "bo-bian" one. Same as in most cases. You send your car for service/repair/beautify, then realised something wrong. Don't you have to return back to rectify? Will you be reimbursed in any way? What about buying your favourite KFC and return home only to discover one item short/wrong?

We consumers are not much protected in this sense.

As others have mentioned, it is a safer bet to have your newly purchased watch verified. On the other hand, the risk of more established dealers pulling a fast one is very much less compared to buying from freelancers and individuals. At the very least, if they are in the business for the long haul, it is not in their interest to scam you.

Having said that though, $75 is small change for a peace of mind when it comes to a purchase that can be > $5000.
Time is too precious to be measured by a cheap watch...

Well...if we look into it seriously, the shop may anytime close shop if we report it to CASE or make the issue BLOW UP. Do you accept a preowned watch shop selling you a non-authentic watch? It just make no difference of "hanging a goat head selling dog meat" and it's ridiculous.

I personally would think that the shop owner should take up the responsibilty to make sure the watch is authentic before display it. In this case, I do not mind of paying $75 to the watch to be verified just to have a peace of mind.

Yes, agree with you. I still find that the responsibility of authentification lies heavily on the seller, be it an individual/private/company. That's how the consumer law is crafted too.

fully agree with your second para. well-said.

if i am to buy a pre-owned rollie from either a shop or someone here, i will def have it verified at rsc for peace of mind. it's quite a bit of money after all, isn't it?

Actually I am all for going to RSC to authenticate. I am just worried that the shop that sells me will not take it back if it is indeed not a real watch. Hard to tell which are the real serious second hand Rolex shops which has been around for a while. Any suggestions?

Authentication is to give you peace of mind..99.99% of pre-owned shops will not sully their reputation to sell you something fake..If their names appear in the local media..it will travel far n wide..not only in Singapore..

Besides telling you the watch is genuine..it also lets you know your watch is clean n not stolen which is v important as 2nd hand dealers would have limited info of this..

benjiyui, i believe RSC dont check against stolen records when I ask them last time. Which to me kind of defeat the purpose of authentication

I think either there are too many stolen Rolex these days or they can't keep updating the database, just imagine you have add new data of stolen watches and also deleting those found watches (if they report them to RSC)...

Read up la... I've heard KOH Watches and Peng Kwee. Though the former is more popular than the latter, in terms of pricing. Then there are JW Watches, Visiotime, Monster Time, etc.

                              Gd luck!
