I told her,i brought it for almost 3k 8 yrs ago.And this model i saw sold over 2k on the internet in so so condition. So i told her near 2k i will let go.She gone back to the office and return told me they will take in for 1k..i huhhh SHOCK.I replied her, thanks for the offer but i will keep it.The ladies were "friendly" but the men...they dun seems to be customer orientated.

louie, you must think for them also... since you saw the watch was sold over 2k on the internet, you want to sell her near 2k, so lets do the math, they will "earn" a few hundred dollars if they sell your watch and they also don't know when someone will buy your watch from them. If someone buy your watch from them, most of these dealers give their customers 1 year warranty on the watches they sell, if any problem, they have to fix it....
so lets do the math again, with the offer of "1k" is quite high if you take ALL their costs and risks into consideration...

you are lucky that you were offered 1k -/+ I would have personally given you only A$800. Fixed cost + variable cost (service + warranty, etc). Think one step ahead, what if i dont sell and it sits on my shelf for 2yrs, i already losing money. As a business we cannot be too critical, if we accept, we proceed, if we cannot accept we say thanks and walk away.Currently wearing:

Second hand shops reliability?
Hi, I have never bought from a second hand shop such as JW. I have gone to their website and am very interested in some of their pieces. Advice from you gurus out there, how do I know that they are selling me authentic stuff? Will they go to Rolex Center to authenticate it with me? Also, since they are pros in repairing, couldnt they just change out authentic parts inside and I would never know? Thanks much. You guys are really helpful

you will have to take their word that all parts used in the watches are original rolex.
No they will not go to RSC to authenticate for you, therefore you pay, go and authenticate, and if anything happen, hope that you are looked after.
Yes they can easily change parts out if they wanted to, but I have to say, that is not a risk i would want to do if i was in this field.Currently wearing:

As for buying pre-own or even new watches from such shops... well, it's very individual. But one thing for sure, buy at your own risk. Not that I don't trust them, I just prefer to take lower risk

But one thing I don't like is that most of the watches in their website are sold. So I do not know why those sold watches hanging for that long.
Cheers,

In fact if you actually surf their website often, they update their sales quite frequently. I think those "sold" ads are for us to see, may be as an enticement or whatever. I do visit the shop occasionally too and actually, they do not post all of their watches online. The website also serves as a platform to try and bring people down to their shop. Why not you visit one of these days but I'll have to caution you; DO NOT BRING YOUR WALLET!

He basically insisted that my friend name his price for the consignment. All my friend wanted was to ask them what a reasonable price would be as he really had no idea. The mom in the end said that she'll get back as she needed to 'check the market'. I mean, it was a rolex. Check what market? The young owner insisted that my friend NAMES THE PRICE, while he didn't tell his Mom to immediately give a price hence his 'Don't waste time' comment.
Why does it have to be so annoying? Why can't they just state the consignment price? If people can carry the damn box and watch there, they should have at least the courtesy to name a serious price instead of playing all these games. Then you see the owner's annoyed face turn to another customer and SMILED like Ronald MacDonald and said, "Yes, Mr, Goh, please sign here...". He kisses up to the rich customers, or rather those that he thinks are rich, and talks down to those that he thinks will not buy many things from him.....but he has no idea who he was even talking to. Sigh.
Anyway, 'time will tell'.....hope that their business will reflect that of their attitude. Actually JW was quite ok when i went there once. There was a friendly lady.....and no kwai lan boss like that of passions.....
Oh, JW's website is pretty 'cool'. I submitted a feedback asking them to rephrase their comments saying that it sounds unprofessional and giving them my 2 cents. Guess what? It doesn't go automatically into their feedback. They get to choose what feedback they show on their website! What a joke...you only hear the good stuff.....just like what the commercial for some radio station...It's all a joke!
I really felt like adding my own comments.. :-) Been to Passions a couple of times, but always end up dun feel like buying anything. Their attitude is really a pain in the rear end. Really do hope that some of the not so popular shops can show them what service is...For sale now :- Black/Red GMT-II A series (b/p included-pre-owned)
- Blue/Red GMT-II F series (b/p included-pre-owned)

Hi, so in general it seems that most of forum participants are quite trusting of these shops in terms of authenticity of their pieces? Guess the safest is still to get a second hand from someone who is willing to go down to Rolex center to authenticate?
