      Rule of the Thumb:

      Basic needs 1st .. ..

When u don;t feel the pinch of getting the rollie, then it's the time for u.

Why even consider a luxury item when there are basic needs to be fulfill?

The few basic home items that is waiting to be upgraded cost so much lesser than the Rolex you are eyeing, get it first, then save some more to get the Rolex you want.

No point to get Omega as a substitute for the Rolex as after a while, u will regret, and when you try to sell it off, u will lose more $$.

First Rolex ( or any expensive watch ) always carries more sentimental value, take your time, it is always there waiting, no need to rush.

New to this forum. Had been thinking of getting a rolex since started working but never get to do it as kept thinking of how many practical things i can buy with that money... However, i have been walking in and out rolex stores lately and set my eyes on a half pink gold, black pearl with diamonds ladies watch.... haiz.. i was thinking of just get it and treat it as a little treat for myself for these 12 years of working life.. moreover I'm having my 2nd child.. so alittle luxury wont hurt right..

However, I started to think again i could have bought a new fridge and stove for my mum which she had used for many years and very worn out and still have much left .. the watch alone would have cost me more than $12k!!! How can I do such things..

Dilemma.. My seiko watch, which my hubby brought me before we got married 5 years ago, cost only $200++ and still serve me very well. It's automatic so i dun even have to change the battery. Drop many times and the time still runs. Why do i want a watch that cost almost 60 times over my current seiko and needs servicing every 4-5 years costing $400 to $500 just for the servicing!!!

Or should i just get a omega??

For those not really rich type, how did you convince yourself to get a rolex??

i am indeed touched by those advise given by bros in rolex forum....keep up those good advise bro....!

                  i say do both....

buy rolex via instalment...pay part cash and part via instalment...remember to negotiate with the salesperson to give you discount equivalent to "cash payment"

with some cash still in your hands, buy the stuff for your mum...

Whatever decision u make, like most forumers mention, family comes first. Just to let u know why i buy my watches. In fact i bought my 1st watch, Sub LV last Dec 08. Reasons below,

                          1) After working for more than 10 yrs, i feel that i need to reward myself.
                          2) My car depreciation alone can allow me a new watch every yr, so why spend on car instead of watch? ( although i m still driving, i will not spend on car as much as watches now )
                          3) Too much poison in forum LOL

soon after i got my 1st rolex, i subsequently got my 1st Panerai and a datejust for my wife. now i itchy hand looking at TT daytona or GMT leow LOL. 3 watches in a yr.

in good economy it is ok, but in such an economy where outlook is uncertain despite gov say the worst is over, i dont know how true is it

using instalment to pay means u are committing future money as it means u have to be 100% sure that you got a job. i never pay things via instalment because im not comfortable to using future money which i yet to earn unless i have spare cash in the bank
