my advice to all is never place your watch on the tray provided. always put them inside your carry on baggage, insider a zip compartment if possible.

in fact your valuables such as cash, passport, etc should be kept inside zip compartment of your carry on.

Wow!!! I typically don’t take off my watch unless I am specifically told to do so. Usually it doesn’t trigger the airport scanner. But assuming if it does, I just step aside and let them scan again using the hand held scanner.

Yeah same here man, I normally just keep my watch on unless told to remove it. But yeah I usually put it in my bag and not the tray.

Yes! This’s exactly what I do going to security check.
watch, money & wallet in travel bag.
Watch keep in travel case and put inside travel bag.
So don’t get scratches from other stuff inside the travel bag.
Passport & boarding pass usually in my hand.
Only travel bag & laptop go through scanner and nothing else.
End of scanning sop take travel bag and laptop.
