I is enough, but its difficult to stop at 1. It's scary, you got 1, then 2, then end up so many, not only watches alone, you know what I mean, especially DOM like me.

How many watches does one really need?

You NEED one good, versatile watch - a nice black Sub would fit the bill. You WANT as many as possible depending on interest, aesthetics, and budget. Heck, I've even seen a post in a forum on a guy who has had the last 4 generations of the black Sub. To each, his / her preference.
My personal thoughts:
1. General all-rounder - stainless steel bracelet, suitable for everyday use
2. Formal watch - finely polished, slim, leather strap for formal events
3. Tool watch - beater watch, built like a tank, can be used for sports etc
All other variations stem from the 3

Little bit of humour tot of the lord of the rings if the rings were watches...
"Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for the Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie."
That Means 20 ..... hahah"He could not just wear a watch. It had to be a Rolex." Ian Fleming, Casino Royale (1953)

1 Office wearer eg Datejust/AquaTerra
1 Weekend casual wearer - any PAM
1 Travel watch with 2-3 timezones eg GMT master/Ex2
1 Dress piece eg jaeger reverso
1 Sports watch with good depth rating eg Sinn U1 (seriously, no one wants to abuse his submariner)"Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."

yes this is true , i did think something similar , one nice watch for the week and one casual for the weekend , then i saw something new i liked and so it goes on. I suppose the key is to be disciplined and when you buy new get rid of something in its place.

Actually i own 7 watches.. !st watch-rolex explorer2 in 2003, 2nd-rolex sub C, SS Gmt2, Raymond weil-nabucco in carbon, bell & Ross , Sinn U1 and a Pam 312.. looking to buy another Daytona or TT Gmt2 ..... BUT .... , frankly speaking i keep all of them in my Cardboard... only bring out to see occasionally! coz i use my Iphone to see the time. Hmmm, maybe my job doesnt allow me to wear a watch. but its a different hobby for certain people. hahaha..

I think for me, it comes down to how much spare cash I have to splurge of these big ticket items.
Then it comes down to how much space I have left in my watch winder, then how many watch winders do I have space for in my room, then do I need another room for my watches, then do I need a bigger house for my collection....
I think you guys get the picture, it's something of an obsession for me, girls have their shoes and bags, guys have their watches and cars.

I think there is also a need to find a daily beater, for me, Sinn U1. Reason, (IMO) this will make it less of a hassle to keep changing. A dress watch will be nice. Maybe a luxury one to pamper one during special occasion. Right now, I also go for 3 watches.
