Basel 2008 rumours

Hi guys,

since Basel 2008 is only a couple of weeks away, perhasp we can discussed on what you guys think will be the models that are scheduled for an upgrade or which models will be discontinued announced during Basel 2008. I think since the Rolex sports line are the more hotly discussed models, we shall confined to speculations on them. Most of these sepculations were taken from other watch forums and are at best pure speculations but no matter how remotely possible, for discussion purpose, they may just point to the direction on what future models may look like or which present models will be discontinued.

First off, I have been reading lots of rumours on SS SubDate getting an upgrade in the form of a ceramic bezel, supercase, and bracelets. Then there are the rumours on the ExpII incorporating the newer 3186 movements in them for future productions. Lastly, there is talk of the SD that it will soon be either upgraded or discontinued. What other unconfirmed info have you guys read or heard?

Personally, I think that the rumours on upgrades to the SD or even if its discontinuation (though quite far-fetched) will most thrilled me .. what about you guys??

To me, more upgrades = more reasons to up the prices of their timepieces

On the other hand, those watches that holding by us will increase it value also.

I think high chance of SS Sub date in ceramic bezel and those existing SS Subies becomes vintage soon. heehee...

IIRC, I think the current exp II are all driven by 3185 still. To date, only the ceramic GMT II are driven by 3186

ya, u r spot on, bro .. discontinued, discontinued !!! or any upgrades to it also good enuf for me... but seriously, i do think that at least 1 of the popular sports model will get the upgrades like the 116710.. Having said that, i do hope that they leave the polished centre links out of any upgrade to the bracelets.. Personally, the bling bling thing is not my cup of tea...

I personally feel that a Ceremic bezel will not go well on the Sub Date.. Think its a crash of design... Sub Date is supposed to be a rugged watch, not an elegant watch.. purpose wise lah.. Conceptually, its alittle off to match it with a ceremic bezel..

Since it is rolex 100th anniversary so I think submariner will get an update soon. Basle Fair this year will be memorable as the event at which Rolex changed the classic Submariner.

it's really good to see a thread on the speculations of the upcoming basel fair. personally, i hope for the following:

1) SS Subbie gets the ceramic bezel;
2) SD gets discontinued;
3) ExpII gets a new bezel design;
4) GMT-IIc prices goes down...but this is but a mere hope.
5) face out the YM-II
6) all the centred polished links revert to brushed for the sports models. i just cannot stand the bling factor plus the fact that it attracts hairline scratches like a magnet.

But over all, this is what I really hope of all of us here: Strike 4D and TIO Toto so come what may after basel, we can buy whichever models we desire. HUAT ARH!

Sekali the come out with an anniversary series / special edition for GMT / SD and push up demand further.. so they can raise the prices again...

yeah. this would interesting though they never had limited pieces aka numbered pieces.
