  • Are 36mm really too small for men??

for discussion, what do u guys think about the current perception that 36mm is too small and more for the ladies. with the advent of watch companies rushing to bank on the current big watch fad and producing watches that are 42mm in diameter and above, has the pouplarity for typical 36mm datejusts and explorer series cooled?? What are your thoughts on this??

I happen to think that 36mm still look cool on men's wrists. I've attached pics of Brad Pitt sporting what seems like the explorer (pics taken off the net) and from the looks of it, i think they look fitting on his wrist (assuming that Brad Pitt being a caucasian does have bigger wrist sizes than typical Asians)..

I personally prefer watches that are > 40mm. I don't have a big wrist but my body is quite big, so I prefer a bigger dial-sized watch

think it's a matter of personal preference leh... also getting use to... as long as one get use to it, they think cool loh... so looking at jst pictures hor, diff to tell lah... cos it's down to individual.

if wear 36mm everyday, switch to 42mm, u will find it wow, so big.. but continue wearing for a couple of months hor, go bck to 36mm, u will find it wow so small... there after, most will stick to those bigger case... ( same apply to ladies too, tested on my wife too ) .. hehehe ....maybe some bro share the same view

            depends on the model.

personally, still think the exp 1 and the classic datejust looks good, at the right occasion.

Its a very individual thingy la. Factors shld include own wrist size, liking, type of watches (meaning classic, sports, etc), design and et cetera. Can u picture a subM at 36mm

Or a classic one at 42mm

funny, my father got bigger wrist then me and he will not wear full size watches (given the choice), however i have smaller wrist, and i wear 36mm watches no worries. so i guess really what YOU like.

even 39mm is small for me even thou i am thin and tall with small wrist. i prefer watches at least 43mm like my panerai and IWC.

                        just my opinion.
36mm i wont say it's small for men but i think just nice for say the diamond or gold models.max for that is 36mm. 40mm and above is for sports models i would say...

I think that though it is more of individual preferences, the trend of big watches have generally influenced people's perception of the sizes of watches on their wrist. I mean if one is to take into consideration the size of a 36mm watch relative to a wrist size , say 6.25inch, then I would assumed 36mm would look just nice. But given the current fad on big watches, 36mm would look small, not because it is small relative to wrist size per se but more so because it is small when compared to the sizes in vogue. So I guess it is more of how big can my wrist takes when it comes to choosing the sizes of a watch now.
