    That's just the Rolex wishlist...

Hmm...I guess there maybe some delay on the sub at 17 or I might as well not get it.

There might be Tags,Omegas, wallets, bags, clothing, and MORE SHOPPING that might delay me from buying a YM at 18

I started a family young and is a young father of 2. A lot of commitments like car, household expenses, etc. Can only afford a ROLEX @ age 30

Well, there are important priorities besides material posessions.
And 30 not that old, really.

My first rolex wasn't even mine. It was a gift datejust for my wife, at my age 33.

Hmmm long story for me. Got my first Rolex when I was 18? I was collecting watches since 16. It's free as well. What happened was I did part-time waiter while waiting for O level results & got to know this Malaysian who became my best buddy & his father owned a watch shop in Seremban decades earlier & retired. It was like a gold mine waiting to be unearthed! So, one of those holiday jaunt to his hometown, he brought me to his father's room where there were boxes of watches kept under the bed. Well, his father passed away & none of his family members were interested in them.

So I savoured through them & found a couple of old pieces & there was this very unusual Rolex from the 1950s in steel with a small logo on the dial & Roman numerals! But the crown was missing & plastic was yellowed & cracked.....anyway, he told me I could take whatever I fancy. So, I didn't want to be greedy & took only this.

We went to Chi-chionggai in KL where I found an old watchshop with an old technician who scrutinised it & quoted me RM50 to overhaul it including a crown & new crystal. Wow, not bad I thought so there it went & two days later I got a working Rolex! It was so precious I couldn't help but keep looking @ it every other quarters of an hour & wouldn't wear as I wouldn't want to get robbed!

Anyway, after I came back to Singapore. My lecturer who was a watch nut saw it & subsequently sold it for me for S$1000. I splitted S$500 to my Malaysian friend. Seven years later, I found this exact watch & acquired it back for S$1700? & it's remained in my collection since. Oh I have seen thousands of Rolexes & never have I come across another that has this exact dial & reference.

Sadly, I've lost contact with this buddy of mine & I was in KL last week while that old watch shop is long gone but I'm quite sure the boxes of watches are still under the bed waiting to be discovered.

No matter at what age you buy your first one, the one you buy with your own money is the most valuable one of all.

And the one you inherit is the most important from the point of view of heritage. For me, that is a Jaeger Le Coutre Master Mariner from 1970 which is now in need of service, a gift from my grandmother to my father and now to me.

Another is a 1933 Invicta pocket watch in rolled-gold, belonged to my grandfather before he was taken away by and shot by the Japanese in 1941.

This watch was in my keeping for many years, but I have passed it to my uncle for safekeeping, after I learnt that my grandmother had promised it to him on her passing.

I brought my first ladies rolex date just half gold costing $5.6 k with 10 diamond for my mother at 16 years old after my O level when i work part time as production operator earning around 2K per month from 8am-10pm daily.

At 21 than i buy myself a mid size rolex date just half gold with 10 diamond. I am still wearing it daily till now i am 31 years old. But i change my jubilee to leather. Serviced one time in this 10 years of wearing. Cost $300 at rolex service centre.

At 28 i buy myself a Midsize rolex King solid yellow gold. Seldom wear it.
