- depends on factors combined together - exchange rate + discount given + tax claimed (exchange rate varies from cash to credit card)
- depends on which country you traveling to (eg, in europe, tax claimable is differs in countries)
- depends on whether you are traveling with a tour group or otherwise.

Depends on the country you are travelling to.
You may or may not get a discount but you will generally save on tax/vat rebate. Certain countries more than others.
For example, the tax rebate in Japan is 8% but you'll pay 7% GST when you enter Singapore. So you save 1%. However, certain pieces, like the BLNR are sold at a ridiculous premium by the ADs in Singapore so you may end up saving if you can get a deal at an overseas AD who sells at RRP.
Generally, prices in the Scandinavian countries, after VAT rebate are a lot more favorable.Comment

there's no quick and dirty answer, really depends on various factors that what experts above mention...
if price-sensitive, then better do rigorous homework to avoid regrets later... otherwise, just buy from AD. btw, overseas AD in Europe are already cheaper in SG. if you're talking about europe, i won't even consider the grey dealer option in europe.Comment
