  • Ding on watch case HELP!

I have a little ding on my watch case, must be hit on something hard

It can be feel by running ur finger nails on it. It is located at the watch case area near the bezel where the side and the top meet, creating a "90 degree" angle.

Anyone know if it can be polish off? If so, any shop u all recommend?

    it can be polished off.

i know it is painful and can be a sore sight. should you insist on polishing, it means taking away the material. also it happens on the edge. if you polish the ding, the watch edge may be polished off.

your watch looks new. i would advise you against it.

I wld leave it as it is.
Your watch looks pretty new, polishing it will probably smooth out its natural sharp edge.

Hi thanks for the inputs. The pic makes the ding look pretty obvious. Actual set, you can't really tell unless u observe clearly.

It happened that I know is there so I tend to Super focus on it.

Watch I purchased BN around 2 years ago. Very seldom wear thou so it look New still.

Do anyone have a pic of a polish set that I can compare?

        Thanks in advance!

Generally hairline scratches can be polished off but for dings, it depends how deep. Based on what I see, removing the ding can mean destroying shape of the case, especially when it's at the edge. It might not be visible with naked eye but it will. One positive note, maybe after polish the ding might not be visible with naked eye but you might still see in under a loupe. Don't worry about it. There will be more. It is part of your watch's journey with you.

I suggest to live with it, I've seen examples with rounded lugs which is very off for current subs. Search for "lugs over polished on sub" on google.

              Hi thanks for ur advice.

I Google for "lugs over polished on sub" and saw some overseas forums and pictures.

Wow the sharp edges is totally gone.

Some is totally like rounded whereas some is like chamfered 45 degree. I understand that polish means taking away some materials on the steel case, but the results i saw is quite drastic. Maybe they have quite heavy dings at there.

A Friend of mine got has a ding at the same spot. He got another one directly below at 7 o'clock area. And he bo chup.

I Guess these dings and scratches are "battle scars". I just forgotten where I got mine lol.

I will let go and won't polish it as advised.

              Thanks for everybody kind advise!

don't lose sleep over it, don't even bother about resale value etc.

just wear your watch how u would wear it, and enjoy life etc.

it's just a piece of metal object, why let it bother u?

I did get dings on my AP, Panerai etc.
It is heart aching for sure, but just get over it quickly.
No matter how u fret or rant over it, the ding will be there, so why bother?

A ding adds character and identity to the watch. I've seen the re-polished finishing on the new Rolex Ceramic Sports before, even the best of the watchmakers just cannot recreate the fine brushed finish of the original, some are too used to polishing the lug shoulders with 45 degree brush instead of straight vertical, making it look franken instead, and last but not least, the brushed strokes appear too 'bright' and coarse to my eyes.

If u cannot stand the sight of the ding, and wants to sell it off to get a new one, then additional resale loss needs to be accepted, so you just have to accept it. In this case, spending money gets rid of the ding for you, and makes u happy, I say why not?

However, to me, these imperfections are what makes a personal watch perfect to me, just like your best friends/gf/spouse, we all have scars, marks and imperfections that define who we are.

I would say... leave it as it is.

Cuz that's what makes your watch yours...

It can be polished off for sure.. but you may just wanna leave it as it is till it's due for a service.. but if you plan to flip of offload it soon then just get it polished by any watch repair shop.. i've seen even worse dings on other rolexes and especially on gold rolexes..
