Should the amount you pay for having your watch serviced include (some) parts change?

Watch servicing is the most basic maintenance for a watch which requires normally every 3-5years. thou its basic but its a very complicated and thorough job if been carried out by a very responsible technican. It involve full disassemble of watch (bracelet, backcase, movement, hands, dial). then strip down movement. thorough cleaning of all movement parts (mainly by ultrasonic machine with cleaning solution). after cleaning and drying. inspection on every single parts for wear and tear especially gears, balance, pallet fork which any damage or wear could affect ur timing accuracy. then assembly and lubrication (grease or oil) as per specification.. quanity and type is a major factor. wrong grease or oil, too much or too little will significantly affect the health and accuracy. eg- wrong grease used on mainspring may affect your power reserve. stain on mainspring, amplitude of may run out. and not all parts requires lub. after assembly, movement is tested to be working normal ( hands ticking, hands does not rub against dial or hands. min and hour hands are fitted correctly. date/day jump/change at correct timing ). polishing of case, bracelet and bezel which also depends on knowledge and skill of technican, a good technican can restore ur watch totally looks as BNIB. but a lousy one can damage/thinning your watch. watch is also tested for waterproofing/pressure test. lastly its on the timing machine for final checks ( beat error, amplitude, accuracy ) in mainly 4 position face up/down crown up/down position and not all position will give you the same timing accuracy. COSC last i know is +6 -4 sec/day. rolex claimed their limit is +4 -2 sec/day. normally part change is not included except n not limited to backcase seal, crown tube or stem seal. depends on indivivual technican. just ask urself.. do we know what exactly has been carried or done?? also note.. stripping, cleaning, lub n reassemble of movement sometime can be done over and over again if results on the timing machine is out of limit.

Well I personally felt that servicing wouldn't include parts.. unless the watch technician bothered to check in detail and advise you that there is a badly worn our part which in his view needs to be changed.

If not it will be just a normal cleaning, getting ride of stains/ dust and oiling.

If parts is involved. . Better go back RSC
