  • Which would you pick as a daily beater?

Hey guys, been thinking of switching up my current daily beater for one of the below. I've currently got a sinn U1 on bracelet i use most of the time.. also have a 372 but that just doesn't go too well with a shirt (formal work environment).

    1) Tudor Black Bay blue (Leather/Nato strap)
    Pros:
    - Looks amazing!
    - Don't see too many of them around
    - Probably the most value for the price
    Cons:
    - Not a Rolex.... not that big of an issue though

    2) Explorer 1 39mm
    Pros:1
    - Lovely clean look
    - Looks great with a green/olive NATO
    Cons:
    - A little too simple? Havent really tried it on.

    3) Vintage Sub (5513/16800/1680)
    Pros:
    - Patina looks great
    - Not your average sub! The current model subs look amazing, but they're a little too common for my taste
    Cons:
    - Not well versed in the vintage rolex world so i dont know what to look out for (or where to buy one)
    - Price... i'm not too sure about this actually but it seems like these are running close to a brand new sub? (did a little research, 1680 seems to be the priciest of the lot)

I've got no qualms about buying second hand, and im trying to keep it below 7k if possible. Would love to hear your thoughts on what you'd recommend or what you'd get if it were you!

***on a side note would be great if someone could teach me how to upload photos Can't seem do do it.

7k you're not getting any vintage sub.

5513 and 5512 are actually more expensive than 1680 white subs now on the market. A good 5513 is around 7k usd. You can get a decent 1680 for a little under 7k usd. I'll recommend 16800. Its a transition model that has matte dial and sapphire crystal and they go for a lot cheaper. You may just be able to find one for 7k.

Personally I prefer a more renowned international dealer. Pay a little more for a peace of mind. I'm not sure if I'm allow to recommend dealers here. But drop me a PM I'll hook you up.

any 14060 or a 16610 sub would suit you as a daily beater..

first of all tudor is a good one but you can't compare it to a rolex..

explorer 1 is also a good choice but the case size is weird.. and doesn't have the ruggedness as a daily beater like a sub and vintage subs like 5513 and 5512 and 1680 subs are more rare and fragile to be used as a daily beater and if you do so then be prepared to spend alot more on services cos of the rarity of parts for their vintage movements..

that's why i recommend you subs from the early 2000's or late 90's non ceramic would do much better as a daily beater and even better job as a daily beater without the bracelets such as on nato straps..

Thanks for the input everyone! Am currently leaning towards a sub now, especially the ND 14060 or 14060M. Would i be right in saying that only the 14060 would come with a tritium dial?

Just in case you haven't already know, not all ROLEX Submariner 14060 models come with tritium dial. ROLEX stopped using tritium on their watch dials between 1996 and 1998. Thus, the later 14060 models were not in tritium.
