  • Verifying watch from grey dealer?

Like to know how many people here send their watch for verification after buying from grey dealer here.
I know our grey dealers here are very much reputable, but how many will still choose to send in their Rolex for verification? Anyone has other options than sending in to RSC for verification?

Those who send their watches from grey dealer for verification, is it a used or BNIB piece?

    Thanks.

other than watches bought from AD, all watches bought from gray dealers or sellers, i send in for verification for a peace of mind. the reason is that the verification fee is a fraction of the cost. rather spend it and be safe than sorry later.

also will only pay after verification to prevent any misunderstanding.

      Hi triton,

      Thanks for your input.
But do grey dealers in general allow you to send their watch for verification?
This verification process is normally before or after sales?
Are grey dealers bound by lemon law as well?

Is it possible there a possibility that certain parts in the new watch are found replaced or repaired where the watch is sold as under BNIB?

whether to do verification before or after depends on how buyer negotiate with gray dealers. this is a tricky situation because sellers will be afraid that buyer backs out after verification. likewise buyers are afraid something wrong with the watch after sales completed and there is no way to resolve.

that is why i always tell members to use the iTrader/feedback system in this forum to provide feedback. unlike other forums, where most buyers will probably post a thread to ask if this seller is ok or not. this forum keeps all the records and hence both parties can access it at any point. this system is to be used as a guide in general but it does gives both buyers and sellers a slightly better understanding.

i cannot advise you on the lemon law. it is better you refer to the relevant website and read it and contact the agency involve.

a watch that is listed BNIB should be a watch without any replacement in theory. if there is, how can one be certain that a particular part has been changed? what is the benchmark to say a crown has been replaced in a watch listed under BNIB? if a buyer has any doubt that a part listed under BNIB has been changed, then it is up to buyer's discretion.

RSC = Rolex Service Centre right?

if RSC can't tell a part which is fake, then will you have confidence in buying Rolex?

A reputable watchmaker instead? or a watchmaker you whole heartedly trust??

There are reputable ones out there who you can trust whole heartedly..

And who can be trusted, who cannot... it is entirely up to each individual...

Common phrase often heard, grey dealers themselves are ex-rsc staff...Better to be verified by RSC than sorry.

If unsure, just like myself.. I rather buy from local AD.. Of course price will be higher than grey dealers.
