Some goes with the ultrasonic cleaner with a bit of dishwashing liquid added but must check your watch is really waterproof. Some just use a damp microfiber cloth with a bit of soapwater then rinse it later. Some just use dry cloth/skin to rub off the dirt/oil/dust/dead skins on the surface.

My experience tells me the ultrasonic cleaner is the best way to clean it.

Would the vibrations from the ultrasonic bath damage the moving parts inside the watch? I know that the bracelet is ok, but is the watch too?

I use normal handsoap and water to wash, then followed by using a fine, soft bristle toothbrush to reach the small gaps of the bracelet. Then rinse with water.

IF YOUR WATCH IS WATER RESISTANT... and it is as dirty as i think it is... do what i do.

          buy this from the supermarket:

          1. put your watch (i prefer face down first) in a small unwanted plastic container. i use an old apple juice container cut into half.

          2. spray the watch and bracelet with the solution. stop when the watch has been fully immersed (or at least half immersed) with the solution.

(if the container you use is much bigger than your watch, you will have to use a lot of magic clean solution)

          3. shake the container gently with the watch in the solution for about a minute. turn the watch over (eg, face down -> face up) and repeat shaking for another minute.

(if your watch is really super dirty, you might want to pour away the dirty solution and repeat #2 and #3)

          4. leave it alone for maybe an hour. make sure bracelet is at the bottom and soaking.

          5. pour away the solution. wash the dirt off the inside of the container.

          6. rinse the watch in the container with water. shake the container for 15-30 seconds. repeat until you see no more dirt particles (takes about 4-5 cycles of fresh water if it is very dirty).

          7. dry the watch. should be as clean as new and no more bad smells either. no need to remove bracelet, etc.

do it my way only if you know your watch is water resistant. there is no other way to clean the insides of the bracelet links unless you remove the bracelet and put it into an ultrasonic cleaner.

an ultrasonic cleaner is for dismantled watch/bracelet only (without movement inside), not a complete watch.

if you can wash your watch with a brush and soap under a running tap, you can do the above.

I swim with my watch twice every week, and then wash it in plain water. It doesn't accumulate any dirt

something very important i forgot to add... the aluminum insert has to be removed first or it will fade.

                    From a watchmaker

And I have learned this from a watchmaker...

Always use a hairdryer to blow dry the bracelet after washing. This will ensure that most, if not all, of the water trapped in between the gaps are dried out asap. This will prevent rush from happening between those screws and what nots...

                      Hi to all.
Please do not used ultrasonic cleaner to wash your timepiece, if you do not remove the movement from the case. The ultrasonic will create problem for your movement ! Never, never, never leave used a ultrasonic machine without removing the movement !.

shou.biao.kuang -> Yes, always dry after cleaning ! by compress air or hot air ! so no residue is left behind to form rush !

Please used non-abrasive solution to clean/wash your timepiece.

Do not attempt to wash or clean your timepiece if you are not sure, what you are doing.
(it will cost you more to repair later)
A more simpler solution, is simply bring your timepiece to a watchsmith to get it clean.

                      Thanks

i have to have very clean watches in my line of work, so i try to disinfect them with bleach if possible.

my brother and father both don't wash their watches, so i wash it for them whenever i have time. they don't remove their watches except to shower and sleep, so it gets really gross.

i have been cleaning my dad's watch since i was an 8 year old boy and we moved to singapore. it's a 1601...

thoroughly worn, thoroughly trashed and now thoroughly retired. so... you can say i've had a head start.
