Classic Datejust 16233 ah pek watch two-tone (gold and steel) with champagne gold dial and stick markers.

If dun like two-tone, then just get a 16234 steel with silver or black or white dial with sticks.

Fluted gold bezel, jubilee bracelet, classic Rolex, cannot go wrong.

Also remember to service the watch at Rolex Centre or a watch technician that you trust.
Just passed 60 yo. Can't afford comfortably at this point but will probably save up like how i did for my omega.

He had a Longines quartz which he wears for occasions but he has since passed it to me for 'safekeeping'. It's 2 tone so I suppose he's ok with 2 tone. However, I wish he could wear the Rolex daily so am thinking of something 'safer' like a SS with white or silver dial.

He's a thrifty guy and wears at $20 casio. How do you think he will react? haha

Am getting him a Rolex not because he needs or wants a good watch. Am getting him a Rolex cos it's a Rolex.

I foresee it might even take much persuasion for him to use it as daily wearer.

Proposed a classic datejust 16233. It will be the best gift from you to him. two tone is the perfect combination for their generation.
The time in life is perpertually moving forward while that in the watch is going in circles.

                New old stock , possible.
                Need to source around.
                About $5k means maybe $5.2k 5.3k
Datejust comes in many different models.
                Go for basic.

I think a SS datejust is right up your alley. Just look for one that is within your budget.

I have similar problem - gotta get him a watch which he will pass down to me eventually. He also simple man - don't like flashy. So the TT is out. Daytona also out. Think of getting him a GMT which we both like.

Get the older subs. Some are pretty close to the 5k budget.

I am also thinking of getting a Rollie for my dad as a present. He is already 75 this year. I thought of getting him the Rolex Explorer 1 214270. There is someone selling on SGROC garage a BNIB overseas AD set at $6300. Wonder what you guys feel?

                        - Is Explorer 1 suitable for my dad (75 yrs old)?
                        - Is the deal on SGROC garage a good deal?
                        - I have checked with my Bro-in-law travelling in Italy and the lowest he found after VAT was 4,100Euro (SGD$7,000).

Older generation may not like used watches. I bought one brand new DJ from AD recently. Was given 15% disc... Do u guys think 15% is good deal?

I wouldn't give a second-hand gift, IMHO. Unlike the west, vintage or pre-owned is not very acceptable here as gifts

I also feel that preown cannot be considered a gift, maybe it's just me.
