Rolex Explorer II vs Panerai 388

Hi

I am thinking of getting either piece from Japan. Wanna ask all of you for polls, though here is Rolex forum. I haven't owned any Panerai yet, but I do like 388 due to the rich history of Radiomir and inhouse movement. As I have a budget of $10k, I'm keen to get either Rolex Explorer II ($10,500) or Panerai 388 ($9,400).

In the meantime, any of you can give advice on getting watches from Japan? Heard direct discounts from taxes on the spot. Kindly share if you know. Thanks.

The ex2 should be below 10k after discount. Around 9.5k.

Without the support from their Sis/parent company-Jaeger/Richmont, PAM might still be using ETA or even start using sellita movement.

I will be more incline toward the rolex exp2 understand from friends that in general rolexes are cheaper in Japan compared to other brands

I just bought my first serious watch about 1 month ago and i had the same dilemma as you, choosing between a Milgauss and another PAM. I liked both watch a lot, and my heart was almost choosing PAM because i wanted something stylo. In the end I bought the Milgauss - no offence to Panerai owners, as it's my first, i wanted something classic but still uniquely weird. And a Panerai, personally i feel there are so many out there right now, if i really want one later down the road, nothing a 2nd hand dealer can't give me at a good price.

My 1st love was a explore 2 (40mm). Sold it and went all out for daytona followed by a pam 392. And recently killed myself with an AP classic. Among the three, the 392 is what I like wearing the most!
