  • Can the word "mint" be used for a preowned watch?

Often, I see pre-owned watched being offered for sale and
    described as "mint".

In the numismatic world, from which word is derived, the word
mint means in perfect condition, uncirculated and unused, as
    straight from the mint.

But an old watch like an Oysterdate, more than 20 years old,
and polished by a professional polisher, and looking "like new"
is best described as such, rather than as "mint" for the word
mint connotes that the watch has been bought, kept in a
safebox, bracelet unresized, stickers not removed, etc.

So, I am of the view that we should avoid desribing time
pieces which has been polished to be described as mint.

    What are your views?

      Correct!

But as a buyer, you need to view and judge the watch's condition yourself and not buy it just based on what the seller has described.

If the protective label and stickers have not been removed, the watch has not been resized, then in my view it is mint/uncirculated as intended used in the numismatic world.
