  • Datejust. - start stop problem

    Hi guys,

New to the club. I took out my datejust bought from THG back in 90s and started wearing it recently. first few days was ok. then today it has this start stop issue. I have to shake it a bit to get it working again.

Does anyone else have the same problem and can let me know how was it resolved.

Give it a full wind first, and monitor. ~40 winds should do the job. if not; you may have to go to rsc to get it checked out, as its possible the oils will be dried up and the gears may seize up.

Thanks you all. I got it running, strangely enough. There's no pendulum in the watch right, seems like swinging it starts it again.

not the pendulum you are thinking of. but there is a rotor that winds each time you move your wrist. that rotor acts as the "pendulum".

except for the new daytona and old (esp unserviced) rollies, the rotor in most rolex calibers don't rely on metal ball bearings (*E*T*E*R*N*A*) but a bushing, therefore its movement is very quiet compared to other movements (ETAs, etc).

if you do hear some scraping sounds... it's time for a service!
