Thank you guys for all the feedback and advise. The AD had in fact issued me a tax invoice for my deposit with detail of the price he quoted and the balance owed, also stated was the validity of 3 months on the item reserved. Anyway, will be collecting the watch soon as it doesn't go down well with me for playing people out. Will heed "Banker" advise on my future purchase.

      my way of buying...

if i want it, i want it now...esp when you are paying more than usual...and have to wait as long as 3 months?
by then the price may already have dropped even further...

there are cheaper options available and you could be wearing it right now...

I put deposit when I know that there is a price increase. For example, 1/1/2011 will have the price increase by 5%. When i am on watch shopping on 31/12/2010, and the watch I wish to buy has yet to arrive but the agreed price with th AD is gd, then i will place a deposit to lock the price. The AD i usually visit will give me receipt, so the price adjustment won't affect me...

im also curious the agreed price is between the new list price and old list price or lower than old list price.

take for example, i want to purchase a rolex explorer II now. they don't have stock currently. the new stock will be based on the list price, so the price is based on discount if any on existing price or new list price? if based on new list price. i see no difference in waiting for new stock to arrive then buy and placing a deposit to lock in @ old discounted (if any) price watch

if your AD can quote you discount off the old list price and allow you to put in deposit on it, then let me know your AD contact. i have yet to encounter any AD willing to sell a new piece base on new list price @ discount if any off old list.

whether or not it is normal, depends on how you see it. once you place a deposit, the AD cant sell the watch to someone else. however, if you don't place deposit, the AD can sell it to the next potential buyer.

anyway for the new sub, there could be limited stock. so the AD can be 'nice' to you to tell you that you put deposit, the watch is yours.

I think nothing beats the feeling of owning a watch "brand new" that gives you peace of mind it is authentic without having the fear, esp when you are unsure in verifying it.

Buying Pre-owned, IMO is a different ballgame as the thrill of getting a good lobang and nice condtion watch is a satisfaction in itself.

You made the right choice to own a rolex and nice watch! Enjoy your watch!
