  • Looking for a watchmaker + where to buy a spring bar tool

I am looking for a reasonably priced watchmaker situated in the west/central area to do a sapphire crystal replacement. Some watchmakers are just rip off artists...$60 to change a watch battery??? Siao eh! Can anyone recommend one?

I am also looking to purchase a simple spring bar tool to remove the leather strap on my orient watch. Will any spring bar tool work? Its the Orient CEV0E001B. I dont want an expensive $15 "deluxe" spring bar tool...

Try JW Watches at Great Eastern Building.

Very reasonably priced, good service and good workmanship.

As for Spring bar tool, just use a small screw-driver to remove them if you're careful and not fussy but that said, you can check out JW Watches for affordable tools also.

Neighborhood watchshops should be as affordable, but not all sell tools.
Just pop into a shop and try your luck!

If you would like a proper spring bar tool I must say you need to spend that little bit of money say $15-20... thats not considered expensive. I believe theres a shop in Rochor Centre that sells Bergeons. I bought a spring bar tool from gnomon watches and must say it is quite ok. Around $15-20 bucks.. forgot how much exactly.

Go google gnomon watches to find out. Believe it is in Shaw Plaza near suntec/beach road area.

Also, forgot if you are looking for a watch maker in the west, Bonfield at Tanglin Halt/Commonwealth area, has a watchmaker who is reputable but heard from others in this forum, a little on the expensive side.

I went into his shop before and found him friendly and rather experienced with watches. Go check out his website - google bonfield watches

cheapo springbar tools can be bought online for a few bucks or if you need one urgently for a once-off, send me a PM and i'll drop one off to you.

                      i wouldn't buy something without user-replaceable tips; unless it's cheap - like under $2.50 (instant-gratification!)

the chromey sort has a finish that doesn't last. too small, and it's not comfortable to use (but easy to bring around).

regular springbar tools won't work very well with rolex models without lug holes., and i wouldn't attempt it without taping up the lugs.

you will prefer using a bergeon 6825 for a modern rolex, over a 6111 tool...
