some say leave it. cause it will slow down the wear and tear on the movement parts.

some say must wind cause need to keep the parts lubricated

If u wear once in a blue moon, wind it at least once a mth to regulate the movt.. Constant winding may cause wearing out to the wheels n parts in the movt..

I think first of all it depends on the power reserve of the watch, some have 7 days, 3 days, some 60 hours, some 42, some 38.

If you're talking about most ETA, then perhaps something up to 30 turns should fully power the watch already.

I usually wind my (automatic) watches once every two weeks. That is if I do not wear them. Each time it will be about 25-30 winds.

i see.. because i am still trying to find out more about my first automatic watch...i read from the information here is that most rolex watches only have 40hrs power reserves...thus i am wondering how many winds to charge the watch till 40hrs..

There is no need to always wind the crown of the watch.
Just give it a shake ! and wear it to charge-up the power reserve.

For those auto watches, I'll wind it 20rounds before wearing when it is stopped completely. Manual watches. 20 rounds per day. Just my practice though. :-D

Well, if u wear it daily then there's no need 2 wind the watch. If i'm travelling overseas & not wearing it, then need 2 wind it a few times & give it a few shakes b4 wearing it 2 keep it moving again. Cheers!

agree no need to wind 20-30x
to avoid moisture from ambient, unscrew crown in aircon condition where RH ~50%

an oyster with gaskets in good condition doesn't allow humidity to enter in the way you describe. even with gaskets not in tip top shape, it shouldn't make a difference whether you wind/adjust the watch indoors or outdoors, high or low RH, snow or sun.

If I have not been using it for some time I would wind 20 times and set the time and date. 20 times - that enough for a whole day if you leave the watch idling.
