fully manual wind watch last only 24 hrs!!!!

Hi bros,

just wondering any bros could help on the above issues. I have got 2 piece of rolex a gmt and explorer ii.

i put these watch on the winder for the last 3 months but stop doing so after discovering that the watches are running faster each day. i usually synchronise them with one other watche that i am wearing.

so yesterday, i manual wind the explorer ii (f series). as recommeded by some old timers here, i did 40 windings. but this evening, when i get home, the explorer had stopped, the same goes for the gmt. this means despite my munual winding, the watch had moved for only 24 hours.

can someone advice is it normal? or had putting the watch on the winder caused some damage to the mechanism of the watch.

depending on how you wind, 40 turns may or may not be enough to reach the full power reserve.....

you shd get approx 44 hours from both your watches.... so you can try winding more for the next test....

if putting on the winder means the watch moving faster, could it be the setting on the winder is not correct? what is the direction and TPD you set on the winder?

thanks for all the reply. i really become more concern after i had read some other post regarding onverwinding by the winder. i am using a brand 'm' winder that i got fom a fellow bro here, and there is some post about it but of course the conclusion is not decisive. anyway by mentioning the brand vaguely, i hope not to cause a stir in here.

how many TPD for the winder, i am not too sure now, but i am like turn it on 24 hrs a day, and it moves in a clockwise direction.

so after i decided to off the winder, i wear my 2 watch ( gmt and explorer ii) on alternate days. the big problem now is that the one that i leave at home for one day stops before i can wear it the next day(hope u all understand what i mean, i alternate wearing the 2 watch)

last time i got no these prob, i wear the 2 watches on alternate day(i leave for work 7:30am in the morning and the time the watch leaves my wrist each nite is about 8pm), i got no problem with the watch stopping. and last time i meant before i got the winder.

so really need some advice on these matter.

don panic first. there are some winders that do not really work towards winding a watch.

I used to have a 'S' brand winder which I place my watch on. No matter how it turns, doesnt wind the watch so like you send watch in for servicing but returned to me after 1 week saying theres nothing wrong.

After that, I read online about TPD, clockwise, anticlockwise, bidirectional clockwise winding, etc then I decided cannot save money buy cheapo winders. Got an eilux instead and it works (althou on certain rare occasions if i leave the watch on it for more than 2 days, it runs faster. till date dunno why will like this).

anyway, what I advice is, wear 1 watch continuosly for say 2-3 days. that should make it almost fully winded (depending on how active u are when at work). Then leave it and monitor to see when it dies. that way, will be a better gauge when wniding your watch. you should be able to get at least 40-44 hours out of a properly working rolex.

it is bi-directional aka counterwise and counter-clockwise with TPD of 650.

it does not matter how long you wind it for. most winders will on and then off, the process is repeated. i have used eilux, orbita winders. no problem @ all.

im not sure which model you use. however, is there a switch for TPD? aka usually 2 settings, one is 650 and another is 800.

which rotation direction is better for rolex or is it better to use the setting which alternates between CW and Anti-CW?

both CW/CCW is ok.... most ppl choose alternate cycles

don't worry, you can't overwind an automatic watch.. wind more turns, you should get about 40hrs of power, if not, then send for servicing.. Cheers..

Think you might like to check if the watches need servicing... Been using Orbita and Underwood winders for my watches and they work great

Do not use cheapo brand winder it will spoilt the watches. No winder is better than using cheapo brand winder. Use brand like orbita you should have no problem.
