  • Looking around for my 1st Rolex

    Hi to all in SGROC,

Have been reading up from the forum and doing some leg work recently. As the title suggest, i shopping around for my first rolex, planning on getting it on sept this year . A few models caught my eye:
-SS DJ roman silver computer face
    -SD
-TT blue sub (wee bit high for my pockets)
I don't really mind pre-owned but preferable with no lug holes and comes with full set. My budget is around $6k
I have been to ADs and some pre owned dealers. Would appreciate if you guys can advice me on the price you are willing to part with on those models.
My uncle have advice me to check the number of links of the watch should i decide on 1, saying that it might have 'implications' should i need to sell it later to fund another watch. if that's the case what must i watch out for? Is there anything else i should know before i commit?

    Regards

since you mentioned that there is a possibliity of selling it later, i would suggest you go for the sports models as they have better resale value.

things to look out for when purchasing a watch, if you got a loupe, bring it and examine the case, bracelet etc. since you want papers, make sure it matches the numbers on the watch case itself.

to save yourself matching and scrutinizing so much, bring it to RSC where they can authenticate the watch for you for a fee of 75. you can even ask them for serial number to match against the warranty papers.

Welcome to sgroc! Think 6k might be hard to get a tt blue sub. If u seriusly thinking of resale, then most prob don go for the datejust.
I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch, I dont need another watch.........

Can still get a beautiful DJ: http://sg-roc.com/showthread.php?t=15480...

My experience tells me it is more economical to get a pre-own one.

Ya, doing a bit of ad here .

Btw Sirhc, you've made good choices. Other than the physical aspects, you shld also look out for official docs such as the warranty paper/cert, receipt (if any) and boxes (if they are originally ROLEX).

            Gd luck!

Thks Triton, Exxondus, Oceanklassik(nice watch you have there), for your replies. I am still looking around for the model that will ultimately sing to me.

I have noticed that the watches showed by pre-owned dealers are usually scratched, some really bad and alot of them are short of 1 or 2 links. About the scratches, the dealers said that it can 100% restored(is that true?), The links, i didn't dare ask. Would the number of links of a watch matters at the point of resale or trade to fund a new watch?

                yup, each link costs money.

think usually a new watch will come with 12-13links excluding the clasp.

scratches can be either brushed off or polished (Bracelet i mean). when looking at bracelet, look at if it is 'overstretched due to age'. meaning extremely wobbly or something like that

For pre-own watches, the few main important aspects to look out for are firstly, the glass to see any chip-offs (esp. at the corners); any dents or deep scratch(es) on the watch case; and scratched/dented crown. For small, light-fine scratches that can be polished off easily, I see no issue.

Thks for all the information bros, they were very helpful. Am going scouting this weekend, most probably deciding on the SD
Assuming the condition of the watch will be like new after some touch up, whats the rough price range i should be expecting for a F/D/Z series SD with and without papers.

                    Best of regards

SD is aplenty everywhere in the pre-own watch shops. Even more so in our Garage Sales Thread. Browse thru' the Sales Thread to get a feel of the price range. It is always so exciting to shop around for watches.

                      So, gd luck!

CRAP....the leg work is not doing any good. The more i see the more 'gong' i become. So many nice pieces!!!!! Saw some Djs with the dates in red...si bei swee. TOGs, TT rosegold Djs...ARGH....... A friend gotta to show me his TT 116200, also nice. the dome bezel with the new clasp....WAH...'Bao Xue Guan'

Bottom line of all the scouting and reading up, I guess its a DJ i'm looking for, suits my wardrobe more, unless Rolex can come up with a GMT IIC PEPSI soon, which many of us here are keeping our fingers crossed LOL. I sure it will be the next big thing.

Is it possible to change the 'date wheel' and second hands to a red one? I like this 2 features but not the TOG bezel. Anyone here know any dealers who has a good selection of DJs? Care to refer? Would appreciate a lot.

                        Regards

If you are referring to pre-own watch dealers, try Chinatown area. If new, try THG and WP.

                          Cheers!

Is it at 'tiong kok lang' center or opposite it? I might be in that area later today.

What "tiong kok lang center"? You'll hv better luck with People's Park Ctr and Cplx. Got few pre-own watch shops and even new watch shops, such as THH and W.. (****! cant recall name). So, go drool.
