312 as it is their 1st series of in house movement

Personally I will go for 312 as the incremental in pricing gets u a lot more e.g. in house automatic movement, 1950s case, nicer straps, date function etc

Oceanklassik, then which model around the price of 111 and 312 would you suggest?

312 has at least 4000 pieces every year and even until now 2013, they are still trying to sell O series.
I seen a few 312 still on 38XX running number. 111 has already moved on to P series.

                  O is 2012
                  P is 2013
i believe A started in 1997, so you work along this line you can get an estimate of the year of production for each letter from A to P
pre-As are considered vintages and command 5-figures asking price

It says O38XX/4000 at the back of your 312.

If it says P then it's made in 2013. I have never seen a P series yet apart from the lower production models.

neither will hold its value...Panerai is more of a fashion watch and fashion come and go...not that i am biased being that I am also a Panerai owner...but to be honest, Panerai is a watch made famous by Sylvester Stallone...who knows if he suddenly like other watch...then its bye bye for Panerai already...
