  • Why I choose a Pam 233 over a Daytona

Hi all I am just sharing my thoughts. The Rolex Daytona SS in blackface was my holy grail for the longest time and I was hunting for one at the right price...then it all changed.I saw the Pam 233 and I was awed by the 8 days movement and the simple look compared to the Daytona. In the end i am now a proud owner of a Pam 233

I choose the Pam 233 over the Daytona for the following reasons
    1. Understated simple and elegant design
    2. Less is more to me nowadays, simple face
    3. It's like everyone owns a Daytona
    4. Gmt function is more practical for my traveling
    5. Nostalgic feel of winding your watch ( though it's no joke winding 8 days at 1 go)
    6. The triple barrel movement.

Well it's just some thoughts... Nonetheless the Daytona remains a beautiful watch.

Both are beautiful watch, and guess your next watch to get is the Daytona. Congratulation to your new grail and post some pictures.

        Thanks satch and phillyboy

But somehow the Daytona lost it's appeal for me...maybe a AP in a distant future haha...a working class hero can't keep buying watches

Congrats bro on getting a pam. I wanted to get a rolex dssd but was put on hold when i stumbled upon panerai. It was far too alluring for me, everytime i see someone with pam, i would say nice watch bro. Ended up making a few friends along the way hah.

Which Pam u thinking of? The DSSD is a solid watch!! Very robust and highly specialised. I tried it but it just dun fit my wrist.

Tend to disagree with the original statement

"4. Gmt function is more practical for my traveling"

Without a rotating hour bezel, I find the 233 very impractical to change to different time zones

actually in any GMT watches, the GMT hand is there more for aesthetic purpose
likewise for other complications eg chronograph , date
i would rely on my mobile phone for dual time zone, stop watch, alarm, date and sometimes even telling time

but i still wear my watches nonetheless - for aesthetic reason as well

Agreed a rotating hour bezel makes gmt function easier. However I was making a comparison between a gmt vs chronograph function of the Daytona. Hence my conclusion it more practical for my usage.

Yup right on smartphones do everything nowadays, for me I still use the gmt function, maybe it's nostalgia of adjusting to the desired time zone or maybe just a nice feeling of using a function I paid for haha

233 is probably the best all round Pam with looks, functionality, x-factor and appeal. But Panerai decided to further milk it and released 270, 275, 311, 317, 335, 401 adding 2 days power reserve here, automatic there, dlc here, chrono function there, but all in all looking the same, yet at insane prices citing "special Edts", "ltd run" and whatever fanciful terms.

A Daytona, is a Daytona. Period. It existed since the 60s and will continue to exist. If you want a chrono for a Rolex, there is only one Daytona.

If you want a 3 days / 5 days / 7 days / 8 days / 10 days + GMT function or any other fanciful combinations / materials / case designs from a Panerai, you have at least 100 models to choose from. And each one may just end up being more "special" then the other upon each yearly release.

                          *hope u get my drift*

Nonetheless, your money, your choice. I spent mine on a 24 and that's as good as it gets with my Panerai affair. LOL

Daytona is iconic, but for that kind of money, don't even have a date complication... Zenith's chronographs at least have a date complication.
