if you are talking about very light scratches,

for polished stainless steel, very fine hairlines or swirls will appear if you use normal cloth to clean it. a proper microfiber polishing cloth or natural chamois is best! never use tissue paper to clean as they are abrasive at times.

for titanium, the satin finishing is more resistant to hairline scratches.

Read in other forums that titanium is prone to scratches too ... BUT ... can be easily erased off with an eraser.
            How true ... I don't know ... =) Just my 5cents worth
