You have to do some research first. In the end, what if you don't like the watch? Do note: economy very bad now and resale market has been slowed.........slow...
if you are asking for my opinion, buy the cheapest luminor lying around.

any gd recommendations for a gd pam to start off?
budget below 6k with date?
preowned ok but best if brand new.
any suggestions?
Budget below $6,000 for a pam with date abit tough. Maybe you want to forgo the date thingy?
Agree with bro Paneraii, just grab any luminor with/without date.
I reckon 111 is the best starter. I feel the second hand subdial is an iconic feature of PAM. Moreoever, it helps to tell whether the watch has "stopped". The Base models are nice but without the subdial, I feel something is missing. But in terms of price, I think Base models are slightly cheaper. That's my 2 cents worth of opinions.
The 176 or 177 are both good watches to start out with. Depending if u want the sec gauge or not..
Bro, not sure if you checked the date of the first post by ts. This thread is almost 4 years old already. I reckon the ts would've already bout the watch or scrapped the idea.
