  • Utterly disappointed after seeing this...

I am a huge fan of Pam although I do not hold any Pam pieces now. I got a shock after reading thru some other Pam forums and this is what shocked me!! Just sharing with fellow watch lovers what's going on.

Given the relatively small volume of SE (as opposed to the regular models), it just does not make sense to me for Panerai to want to save cost or short-cut the production process for these supposely already higher margin SE. Why would they want to risk their brand for I think is very small cost saving? Maybe it was just an one-off for whatever reason and not for all SE?

If this is real, then Panerai better come out and explain what is the reason eh.... Still cant believe thou....

Unforgivable... even it is one-off case...

Yes, wanted to highlight this too. I think 'one-off' is equally bad la. But I am wondering if you can actually fault the brand on just their watch movements?

Hmmm... this is a tough issue. If it was their in house movement, then its a definite no-no. Esp if the brands selling point is the amount of time it spends developing their movement and producing the various parts of the movements in house.

But the Brooklyn bridge was a 1 year anniversary watch for the NY boutique. Which I think was Priced only at USD4400. Just an entry level Pam price. So can't really fault them.(although in the secondary market ppl are selling for USD6500). Would be interesting to see if anybody has opened up the PAM 416/417, the beverly hills and NY one and see the movement too. Those were retailing at USD5100.(now on the secondary market at USD7550).

But I agree with most, that a watch company(esp if they want to be Haute Horlogerie) should have pride in their movement and all aspects of the watch, internal and external should be flawless.

For 150 pieces of PAM 318 it should be a breeze to mount a basic movement that meets Panerai's minimum specification. It's like a Lotus Elan with a 1.6 Isuzu engine.

Now I wonder what are the movements that go into basic models PAM 366 and 367 and even the new PAM 390 since they are priced so low. hmmm.............time to open up some back cases.

It seems like Panerai is taking customers for fools, how much is a ETA movement? How much time and money is needed to decorate a movement? Not very much from what most ppl know. Simply dropping an unfinished movement into a beautiful case is totally unacceptable for any honouable watchmaker. You failed me this time. This incident really shook my confidence for my once beloved Panerai brand.

someone pls verify.. the paneristi forumites were up in arms and pitchforks against the threadstarter for being a movement snob/trolling etc wasn't really helpful in verifying if this is true.

would this mean that next time consumers ask for see through case back?
