Question on Winding

Hi All,

Would like to know if infrequent winding of the watch would damage the mechanics of the watch inside?
I.E. the watch has stopped running, and I would have to wind and adjust the time all over again, most probably like once a week.

So if the watch is not running, does it still have to be serviced every few years?
