  • Honesty is only as clear as?

Honesty is not telling e buyer you don't know the history as you are not e 1st owner, when you are infact e 1st.

Honesty is not about sending e watch for polishing and reselling e watch as BNIB and LNIB.

Honesty is not about sending e watch to non-certified repair ctr that did a bad job of servicing, polishing and worst replacement of non-OEM or wrong parts.

Honesty is about telling e prospective buyer all e prob of ur watch and not hissing it from him.

Honesty is as it is, to be evaluated.

The only way to check honesty is to send the watch to Richemont for a free appraisal to see if the watch is as described.

    Cheers

      • Totally agree....plus, according to what my parents and teachers taught me, honesty is about not lying. For that, richemont won't judge, someone higher will.

            • Apparently, some sellers here in this forum are not happi with my relevation that buyers can actually ask them out to R for checks before the deal is closed.

Remember buyers, it's your absolute right to meet the seller @R for e tech there to open & check your watch head (mvmt, dial, hands, crown, stem, hub, bridge, lever, crystal & bezel) for fake parts, fake watch, wrong parts, dust, rust, corrosion, leakage, grime, defects, bad servicing job, wear, tear, inaccuracy, damage and to if service is needed.

Buyers who dun do this miss an opportunity to really know what they are paying for.
It's of no obligation for you the buyer or seller to continue with the servicing & repair.
              And, it's not wrong.

GOOD sellers have no qualms to wait for buyers in R and do the checks.
POTENTIAL BAD sellers who sell watches that is NOT as described will likely back out of the deal when you request em to meet at R for checks.
They will give u excuses like, "I have many previous good trade ref in SG-ROC, I'm a well-known seller with reputation to protect, Spore is small & I have no where to hide, Not free to meet as R is only open during office hrs & not open on Sat/Sun",............just remember one thing, after e watch pass onto ur hands, it's no longer their obligation to be responsible for fake, damage or wrong parts/watch....

Buyers always stand to lose, not sellers!

This, I cannot agree more. Whether as a seller/buyer, either party does not want any problem(s) that may surface resulting from the sale. So as much as it should benefit/protect the buyer, it can too, protect the seller, right? It works both ways; not just one (on buyers). My point is - communication is very important when it comes to such transactions.

When it comes to the point of verifying the authenticity of a watch, it is solely the buyer's choice and honor, that he/she wants to do it and will bear all costs including if the watch needs to be serviced/repaired for whatever reason(s). Unless the buyer is not prepared to undertake the additional costs after diagnosis, then he/she has to sound out to the seller before verifying the watch.

For example, buyer wants to verify the authenticity of a watch only and took over the watch from the seller. After the watch is checked, the technician confirmed the watch real and original but added that it needs repair/change of parts/servicing ... Buyer hesitated and wishes to pull out of the transaction but will pay for the verification fee. Is this fair to the seller? Well, it may/may not. If buyer has voiced this out before he takes the watch for verification, then it should be fair. However if the buyer didn't and the seller thought that buyer merely wants to verify authenticity to confirm the sale, then the poor communication will result in misunderstanding.

I've seen it happened and trust me. It can get pretty unpleasant.

                            • Fred, thanks for the interesting suggestion. Just wanted to share with you my story in R, KL.

It has been 5 yrs since I have serviced my PAM111 and after reading this thread I decided to head to R for service. Bear in mind, this is my first trip to R. Arrived at R and was greeted by a middle aged lady. She's polite but firm. Told her that my watch is running slow (which is true). I was asked to fill in my personal particulars. The lady asked me a couple of questions about my watch. What happened next totally surprised me! During the casual chat about the watch, she donned on a cyclop and intricately inspecting the dial and the caseback. All is quite for a minute until she broke the silence and told me that she would bring the watch to the technicians to check the movements internally. After waiting for 30 mins, the watch was retuned to me with a service quotation. I agreed and left the watche for servicing.

The fact that the receptionist bothered to inspect the watch in detail in addition to a series of question, proved that a lot of people had dropped by to authenticate their watches that apprently R do not provide such services anymore unless you would like to fork out SGD 1000 to have the watch shipped to Geneva and wait for 2 months for authentication.

Judging by her tone and manner, I doubt anyone can get by her with a fake watch nor would she has trouble asking you to leave politely

Whoa! KL oso like tat liao ah?

                                Yeap, it's a 2x check.

The lady at e recep check outer surface for scratches and note it down & she oso check e millisimation serial number to see if it matches the individual number, mvmt number on her computer.
This is sama same with Spore.

Yes, she wear the magnifying glass to look at e Panerai engraving at e back & oso e ETA butterfly logo to see if e watch is real.
Same sama w Spore as well!

Once we clear e recep, then onlie will e recep pack & bring e watch inside for tech to look, check & regulate for parts condition, parts authentication, wear, tear, damage, accuracy & wrong parts.

Yeah, I think they will have no hesitation to invite us out if they find something fake.
And u r rite, if she come out with verbal quotation or tell u no need service, u r safe.

PS: I dunno shame, some more go and take the soda in R@SG last week.....& kena stare thru e magnifying glass while I open e fridge, LOL
