Sorry to hijack this thread a bit but I am curious about one thing....

Why is it that of lately, there is no new PAM112 on the market? Instead I see a lot of PAM000?

The AD at Marina Bay Sands had the check to tell me that 112 is discontinued.....I had the shock of my life......

Speaking of which, I saw one PAM112 in the display case at the Cortina, Raffles Place days ago. I was surprised because I have never seen any base model PAMs on display locally before.

Yeah....I almost wanted to say that in that employee's face....But initially, she didn't even know what's a 112 and she had to ask someone else. After asking her colleague on what's a 112, she threw a bomb at me saying that its being discontinued.

I had a sneaky feeling that she said that only to get rid of me, her other colleague knowing better that 112 is hard to get and I should not even bother trying to ask sincere about it.

Hmm.....i need to go and have a look at raffles' place...any idea what is the listed price there?

Well, I like to think that me being very very new to the scene of watch buying, they won't sell these popular Panerai to a walk in customer like me. So I guess there are 112s around but its just not my fate to own one yet....

Actually I find these phrases too commonly used. It has been somewhat abused. The discontinuation of watch models (any brand) has always been over rumours, and there will always not be any official statement by the brands, in any form to inform the public that a watch model is discontinued .

Having said that, it is likely a marketing ploy of sort and over years, it is accepted, or forced to be accepted as a norm. Now, this comes to the purchase. If rumour starts that a particular watch model is discontinued and a sales person informed so, to a customer, and the customer buys that watch to realise later that it was not discontinued, then how? Can seek redress legally?

                          Anyone like to try?

112 should be retailing at $6850.
Anyone know the new effective retail price from Oct?

I had this experience to share. During the period when rumours were going around that the ROLEX Seadweller (SD) had been discontinued, I was, at the same time, looking around to purchase a ROLEX watch, but had not decided which model to get. During that time, the SD was at its late 'Z' (2007) and early 'M' (2008) series (do note that the SD stopped production at 'V' (2009) series).

Ok, one fine day, I walked into Watch Palace at Lucky Plaza, a ROLEX AD, and asked to view several watches, including the SD. While chatting, the salesman informed that the SD was (or going to be) discontinued and I should consider getting the SD among the other models I was eyeing, although SD was not my first few choices. When I asked for the price, I was told that because of the discontinuation, the price was fixed at retail price of $8,751, with no discount. So I asked if the discontinuation was merely rumour or a confirmed statement, and he firmly replied that it was confirmed!

Then the challenge (from me) came - I took out my card and told the salesman that I would not haggle over any discount and would gladly pay that amount he quoted, as long as it was confirmed that the piece that I was buying was the last series of the SD that ROLEX had produced and there would not be any new series SD coming up. And if it was not so, I expected a full refund from him with no question asked.

Well, he chickened out and said softly that the rumour was "very strong", as though it was a confirmation of sort. I thanked him and left the shop.

Let me add that the SD was in fact discontinued, but only after 'V' series. Then the DSSD was 'borned'.

I suppose from a business point of view, it would be silly to discontinue any popular model especially 112. Perhaps they are looking at a revamp? But this is all based on rumours and i last check 112 is still on Panerai's official website. ...
