  • Which to get?!?!

    Hi guys,

after lurking the forums for sometime, i finally decided to give in to my desires to get a pam. (sounds quite bo liao to seek opinions)

But im torn between the current models in my head.....

    PAM 104
    PAM 005
    PAM 312

Though its only a watch and shall be worn by me to my liking, but i thought i seek some opinions.

To be honest, i really like the domed crystal on the 233, but out of reach, and i dont want to stretch myself for the watch.

So for owners of the above watches, would you care to share why you gotten yours?

      what watch...

All three are good PAMs to have have but they are in different categories and price. Pam 005 is a fantastic "starter" watch which is affordable (and looks great although some would go for the 112 as it has a sandwich dial and it's simplicity is rather stunning. Pam 104 is more if you like automatic watches and it is a popular choice for people who do not like manual watches. Of cos, if your budget can afford it, go for the 312, which boast Panerai's own movement and has a 3 day power reserve. Any of these 3 watches won't go very wrong. Good luck!

For a start, get the 005
Logo base model will never go wrong. Many ppl like Pam bcos of its historic usage for handwinding. Handwind is a must for starters. After which u enjoy winding, go for a 233. Thats power already! Resale for pam handwind models fetches a better value usually.

Agree with Bro Batamboy...having a luminor marina logo is a good start while most would start with a base like the 0 Logo or the 112. And in my opinion, its best to start with the historic line first before indulging into the in house movt.

After all, the 'cheap' movt inside the historic line is the one that is closes to the roots, manual winding and clean dial. And if you decided that its time to advance, like what Bro Batamboy mentioned, get the 233 which boost Panerai in house movt.

But still at the end of the day...get what YOU want and not want people say.

          Cheers.

All good advices posted in the replies here. Dials could be a majoy decision factor for some people, sandwich (312) vs painted dials (5 & 104). If you want sandwich dial, base model and manual winding, then 112/111 are alternatives to 000/005. 1 major thing all 3 models you listed share in common is their clean unclutted dials. Problem is that you'll struggle to find a retail shop that has all these models for you to compare. Ultimately go with your heart and budget You can't go wrong with any of them.

Hahaha.. johnfish bro... ur post always very humour one leh...

To TS, 005 and 312 quite big gape in term of price leh.

U wan manual or auto? U mind winding the watch every one/two day?

If to get 104, I rather spend 1k+ more to get the in-house movtment 312 eh... Just my opinion thou...

I would go for the 005 first as a starting point.

my first and only PAM is the 312...then again..I was the movement snob...

but once I really understood the brand...a logo is nice..but I love my 312

my next rad is manual wind and 8 days...

                            1) I have a Fiver coz I love the logo and as many mentioned before its a "Historic" hence closer to their forefathers worn by the Decima Flottiglia MAS frogmen. So there's a lot of history/tradition there plus the joy of winding it every morning never loses its novelty

                            2) I have a 301 (basically a 104 with 164 dial) because I love the way it looks- benefitted from the best of both the 104 & the 164 plus the fact that it is a "Ghost" adds a bit of its own story to it. Since it is Automatic that adds an element of practicality to it (only downside-you'd need a winder!)

                            3) I dont have a 312 but am sure to be adding it to my collection soon. Its the most affordable manifattura (OP however has discontinued the usage of this term as a collection in 2010) so far and IMHO, any 'Risti should have at least one in house movement. Plus, it is simply stunning! But if I can stretch it, I'd go for the 233 or even the 270

But I guess the most important thing is that you must really like what you are geting (and like most of us, you'd end up having all of the 3 PAMs you mentioned and many more!!). Whatever your decision, wear it in good health!
