Maybe someone here can share? I think I'll end up being a ghost and still won't own one of these rare models.

This is one of the early prototypes [pre-vendome ofcourse]:

This kind of models do not have #s engraved on them.. I think they were released for Panerai to have a feel if they will go on with its regular production of such model. Some made it, some not.. e.g. the SLOB model which is a vendome era model. They do not have #s engraved and from what I have
read they do not come with papers as they are intended as "display" models
only. But from what I have read the vendome era prototypes have movement#s engraved, so need to be opened.

I think in-depth discussion of these type of "special" models but not special editions should be done in a new thread thou.

I still do not get why Panerai makes those OOR.. they already set a # of production (millesimation) for a limited model then suddenly they bring out those OORs. Maybe because of demand? Some risti pressuring Panerai.

Hi, there are a few of these so called "Ghost" (the model does not appear in any of the official Panerai catalogues or price list) with the most well known is PAM 237 (run of 400 Luminor GMT rumoured to be made for Brad Pitt who wore them in Babel). There are quite afew stories circulating around this PAM including purported quote from Sig Bonati himself.

Next one is a model that I have the pleasure of acquiring : the 301K ( run of 500 luminor Marina). Again this particular PAM could not be found in any Panerai official materials. It is basically a 164 in a 104 casing (pictures of my 301 below)

Maybe any of the gurus out there can correct/add anything to this newbie's comments

This is nice thread. Your watch is beautiful and your car too! I think you are not a newbie in watches.
